Ricardo Rocha (born October 3, 1978, full name Ricardo Sérgio Rocha Azevedo) is a Portuguese football defender. Born in Santo Tirso, he currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur. Ricardo was also called up for Portugal in the Euro 2008 qalifiers against Finland and Denmark.

On January 17th 2007 stories hit the Portuguese and English media suggesting that a move to Tottenham Hotspur was a possibility. The following day the Portuguese media reported that the move was imminent following a meeting in Lisbon between the Tottenham Chairman, former Tottenham player and now agent Ronny Rosenthal and the Benfica President with a price of €5million (£3.2m) quoted as the expected fee.

That same day Benfica issued a statement suggesting that no negotiations had taken place with any club for the transfer of Rocha. The link continued to build day by day with the president of Benfica eventually admitting that negotiations were taking place despite the protests of the head coach.

Rocha was on the bench for the entire cup game vs União de Leiria on January 21st 2007 in which the crowd - well known for their dislike of players leaving - hissed when his name was mentioned before kick-off as one of the substitutes. Rocha was expected to complete his move the following day for an estimated €5m + two friendlies between the clubs with Benfica receiving all profits from the gate reciepts and television money.

Less than a week after the initial interest surfaced, Rocha completed the move to Tottenham Hotspur on January 23rd 2007.
