Lauriane Gilliéron (born July 25, 1984 in Lausanne) was crowned Miss Switzerland 2005 on September 21, 2005, the first from the French-speaking part of the country in 11 years.
Miss Universe Switzerland 2006
Lauriane went to the Miss Universe 2006 pageant as one of the favorites and most experienced misses. Her performance in the finals guaranteed her the 2nd Runner-up slot at the beauty pageant, which took place in Los Angeles, California on July 23, 2006. It became Switzerland's best placement in this international event. The previous best record was a 3rd Runner-Up in 1983.
Background
She was born in Lausanne, but grew up in Prilly, of which her father is mayor. She is currently studying Law at the University of Lausanne. Lauriane has been a vegetarian since the age of 7, and is the eldest of four children. She speaks German, French, Italian and English.
Lauriane was second in the Swiss Latin Dance Championships in 2002 and 2003, and has represented Switzerland internationally in Latin Dance competitions. She hopes to become both a lawyer and an actress, and to come up with her own animal-protection law.
Lauriane competed in Miss World 2005 but did not place. The pageant was won by Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir of Iceland.
She is currently dating professional ice hockey player Michael Ngoy.
