A librarian is a professional worker in a library. Although librarians are traditionally associated with collections of books, they may have charge of a collection of any other type of information material. In most countries one must have an information studies degree to be recognized as a librarian. Library technicians perform many similar duties to librarians, but are lacking the librarian's degree.

Librarians can be found be found in many areas. public libraries and university libraries are the most common employers. Many high schools also employ a librarian. Librarians can also be found maintaining collections at businesses, government departments, museums, and other large organization that keeps large quantities of written material.
