Coordinates

BIG PROBLEM: Hi I am user:Ichmichi from Wikipedia.de. I recognized a mistake in the geographical data of the object described in the article. Please correct the placement data of the object. I found it in Russia (!) near to the "Baikal Sea"! --80.138.69.1 01:16, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I investigated, here is what I found (give or take a few degrees):
Location Coordinate
Tumbler Ridge 55°06′N, 120°58′W
Russia (near Lake Baikal) 55°06′N, 120°58′E

The coordinates in the article are sending me here and here which is correct. maclean 04:13, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, so it's correct that it's placed in Russia? Then sorry for disturbing... I didnt read the article, I was just surfing around in Google Earth being surprised to find something with "British Columbia" in its name in Russia..... signed Ichmichi --84.60.223.145 01:11, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tumbler Ridge, British ColumbiaTumbler Ridge – Name is unique as town name, no secondary uses exist other than the airport and two schools, all located here, target is redirect to current title. Canadian disambiguation rules per CANSTYLE say unique town/city names take no disambiguation Skookum1 (talk) 04:22, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Linking in Infoboxes

I have noticed the removal of the link to District municipality. I understand it was done in good faith, however this style of wikilink was well received in the consensus-built approach to settlement types in infoboxes of Ontario municipalities (see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ontario/Archive 1 section 83), and I see no reason why it should not also apply to BC. The Easter Egg problem is important in wikipedia, but I do not see how this is an easter egg, it links exactly to what it states it should link to. Mattximus (talk) 14:35, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This link is quite similar to the "confederation" example given at WP:EASTEREGG: you would expect it to link to the article district municipality, as opposed to a much more specific article. Actually, since the article District municipality actually includes the list currently being linked to, linking to district municipality would seem to be the best way to resolve this; I have implemented that. Nikkimaria (talk) 14:44, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I won't revert lest starting an edit war, but it seems strange to link to district municipality, which is just a stub and talks about Ontario and South Africa instead of the more appropriate District municipalities in British Columbia which is specific to the context. Mattximus (talk) 21:03, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is no article District municipalities in British Columbia - that's a redirect to the list. Of course District municipality could be further improved to make it less stubby. Nikkimaria (talk) 21:32, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But you would rather the stub that doesn't really have to do with the municipality in question than the article specifically dedicated to British Columbia? Mattximus (talk) 21:44, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The stub has a section specifically dedicated to British Columbia, which could be expanded; the other article is primarily a list. Nikkimaria (talk) 22:40, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FA in need of review

This older Featured Article needs work to rise to current FA criteria. Issues:

  • there are several uncited paragraphs ("History", "Infraestructure", "Culture, recreation and media", "Government and politics");
  • the "Demographics" section needs to be updated to the most recent census;
  • the "Economy" section needs updating;
  • the lead is confusing, it goes from mining issues to dinosaur prints to mining issues; there's also too much detail about mining in the lead;
  • From the lead: I can't find the "projected population of 10,000 people" or the "weakening Asian markets" anywhere in the body of the article.

These are just examples. RetiredDuke (talk) 22:51, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have updated the article, added some additional citations and references, and did some miscellaneous fixes overall. [1] The "10,000 people" and "Asian markets" bits from the lead are summarizations from the Demographics section and the History and Economy sections. If there is anything further relative to the FA criteria, just list it here. Thanks. maclean (talk) 04:39, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RetiredDuke and Maclean25: does the article meet the featured article criteria? If so, can you remove its notice from WP:FARGIVEN and mark it as "Satisfactory" at WP:URFA/2020A? If not, can you outline your concerns below? Thanks Z1720 (talk) 02:10, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
