Hello there, welcome to the 'pedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you need any questions answered about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help or drop me a line. BTW, Great work on the knots articles -- I never thought those twists of string could be so interesting. Cheers! --maveric149

The wikipedia software enables some nifty editing tricks: Thanks for taking to our naming conventions so quickly (it usually takes a bit of time for most new users to get the hang of it). However, it isn't necessary to use a pipe to write knots so that you can have a direct link to the knot article. All you have to write is knots and it will display as knots. I wasn't sure if you referring to the use of pipes to embed your user page or you were talking about the use of the tilda shortcut. You obviously already know about pipes but there is a neat shortcut you can use to sign your name to talk pages: just type three tildas in a row, like this, ~~~ and it will automatically become Satsun when you preview or save. You can also type four tilas and in addition to the above, the date will also magically appear. If you are totally paranoid you can back up each page you work on - but this isn't necessary. The history of each article shows who has worked on what and RecentChanges is constantly being patrolled by people like me who love to pounce on vandals and repair any temporary harm they do. In addition to this, I select the "watch this article for me" feature and periodically check "My watchlist", go through the histories of the articles I am watching and make sure nobody has vandalized or otherwise damaged the articles I care about. Besides, every few days to a week the entire database of articles is saved and archived -- just in case someone where able to get root access to the server itself and wipe us clean. This hasn't happended yet and isn't likely to happen -- but one should never say never. At most we would all lose a few days work. It isn't customary to put one's name on the pages one edits. That's what Talk pages and History are for :=)Ortolan88
