1. A garment worn on the foot. Usually knitted fabric (commonly wool or cotton), it is worn between the foot and outer foot covering such as a shoe.
2. The name of the inner lining of a shoe, distinct from the garment.
3. A slang description of hitting something hard. For example, to sock a ball for a home-run.
