Appearance
A memorial service (Greek: μνημόσυνο, mnemosyno, Church Slavonic: панахіда, panachida) is a liturgy and a ceremony in honour of the dead observed in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
It is performed on the request of the relatives of the deceased on three, nine, thirty days, one year and three years since the day of the funeral. In some cases is it performed every year on the day of the funeral.
After this memorial service, koliva (a ritual food based on wheat kernels) are served to those following the liturgy.
