FA for Portal

I have been combing the files for an aviation related FA since we have not had one in a long time. There are some squadrons that are close but I have not been able to nail one down (VMFA-251, 314?). Any suggestions? I would love to take an hour and look around but I have to go to bed as I am about to fall asleep. Maybe I'll be a bit more clear headed in the morning.--Looper5920 13:08, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding the general to the list over at WP:MEXAM. KUTGW, --Rockero 03:26, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

The rule has not changed, but we have been backlogged lately, due to the lack of updating. I've been doing my normal twice-daily updates, but whenever I go back on the next day, I see DYK has not been updated for 10+ hours at a time (yesterday, it wasn't updated for 23 hours!). Hopefully, if we get more admins in Europe or other places to update, then we can fix the backlog issues. Nishkid64 15:04, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think we can get past this backlog if we keep going back to items that are nearly 7-8 days old. Send Jan 28 + Jan 29 to expired, and add January 30th items. Nishkid64 15:18, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The backlog has hampered the nomination process. And it would be very unfair for qualified nominations to be dismissed for less qualified nominations (some real borderliners) which I now return for further review. Camptown 21:46, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I only agree if better articles are chosen. The project doesn't benefit from unfair selections. Camptown 21:56, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that you added a couple of very short articles... Camptown 22:02, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've done some job in selecting articles, and I think that you can do your part of the job as an admin and update the articles that have been selected, instead of exchanging fine article for stubby articles (which are also more than 5 days old). Camptown 22:09, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Lily article is far too short to get the picture slot!!!! Camptown 22:10, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • If you insist on the 5 day expiration rule - all articles from Jan 30 would have to go as well... Camptown 22:19, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • There has always been some abition in letting a longer article have the picture slot. As of now, the lily article doesn't belong to that group of articles. I know from history that many editors feel unfairly treated when their nominations are rejected because of a sudden tough application of a rule that hasn't been upheld because of a temporary backlog. The last thing this project needs is hard working editors who are unfairly treated. -- Camptown 22:32, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting your opinion

Someone wants to rename the Categories of the Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star Medals, to something like this: "Category:Recipients of the United States Purple Heart medal".

I personally oppose this move because these military decorations are only awarded om the United States and therefore cannot be confused with some other country's decoration. I see no need for the move. As a person who has been involved with United States military related artilces, I invite you to express your opinion here: Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy. Thank you, Tony the Marine 02:29, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

images of PDF417-encoded information currency on userpage

Thank you very much for expressing your concerns. It appears to me, after carefully considering your request, that the belief that this image is not allowed on a wikipedia user page can only result from an inappropriate misreading of the published guidance on the subject. It communicates contact information as its central purpose, and also encodes two distinct information currency units, which may be decoded by other wikipedia users to learn about both PDF417 and information currency. Thank you again for your help. JPatrickBedell 12:49, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MoH recipients

Thanks for your note. WP:ODM is really concerned with national honours systems, be they civil awards, military decorations, state orders, etc, etc. It was intended to take over coverage of this area from WP:MILHIST and the Numismatics WikiProject—the two WPs which had hitherto, in a vague sort of way, looked after this area. As a result, I didn't regard it as wholly inappropriate to replace WP:MILHIST with WP:ODM. Having said that, I should have thought a little more, perhaps realising that biography articles quite properly have a definite MILHIST angle. Sorry about that.

I'll take a look over these categories and add back the MILHIST tag to the relevant bio categories. If you are have any interest in the wider coverage of medals and decorations on Wikipedia then we would be glad to see you at WP:ODM.

Best wishes, Xdamrtalk 00:47, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you do me a favor and take a read through List of United States Marine Corps aircraft squadrons. You may have noticed that it has been my pet project for awhile. I am still working on the intro but I was hoping you could just go through and copyedit. Right now I still need to add the Post WWII info and edit some of the earlier stuff. It needs a fresh set of eyes to make sure it is on the right track. When it is complete one of these days I am hoping to put it up for WP:FLC. Anyway, if you have a few spare moments please give it the once over. Cheers.--Looper5920 04:33, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Palm dogg, User:Rlevse provided a list of specific suggestions for the 3/3 article's GA nomination on its talk page. After addressing these suggestions, looks like its good to go. — ERcheck (talk) 23:16, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All the citations, refs, etc. are completed. I noticed that you moved the Skaggs image into the "Notable Marines" section. Unfortunately, for smaller screens, it make the table render poorly. I'm inclined to leave out the image. What do you think? — ERcheck (talk) 01:09, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd really like to keep the image, just because it's of a Medal of Honor winner. Is there a way to shrink the table, or another place in the article (Like the Footnotes section) where the image would work? Palm_Dogg 01:25, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Let's go with the Skaggs one, just because it's PD. Tried to shrink the table. Let me know if it helps. Palm_Dogg 03:04, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I like the table format, but I moved the Skaggs image back to WW2, just because it looked out of place. Palm_Dogg 03:17, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My vote for the image goes to Image:Engaging the Enemy.jpg. Palm_Dogg 01:24, 27 February 2007 (UTC) I see no problem with the Methar Lam image one you suggested. Palm_Dogg 02:40, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quick note

Bright one that I am, I spilled a whole cup of water on my laptop the other day so I will be down and out for major editing for awhile. I will try to monitor my watchlist when able but until I can get my laptop running again I will have to ask you keep an eye out. Also any other USMC types out there that read you talk page....if they could keep an extra keen eye out as well. I will also ask that you take the Portal updates for this month. I know the RF-4B photo is up there but that may be better left for another time. No point in having 2 F-4 photos, 2 months in a row. I have an idea of what you are going to use for the FA...it looks 1000% better by the way. If there are any issues still hit me on my talk page as I will check it from work. Cheers--Looper5920 19:37, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I read the article Mozambican War of Independence, which was written by SGGH. I believe that it has the makings of an FA. I will nominate it for such on Friday, but before I do that, I want to consult with some of my good friends here who already have a featured article under there belts. That's why I would like you to look it over before I place it in nomination and if you have any advice to give User:SGGH, be my guest.
