Dixieland is a style of jazz that was born in New Orleans. It often sounds march-like with an essence of swing. Common dixieland combos include a drum kit, upright bass, trombone, trumpet, tenor saxophone, and a clarinet. The definitive dixie sound is created by the tone of the clarinet (though it is not absolutely necessary).

Famous dixieland songs include: "Basin Street Blues," "Tin Roof Blues," "A Closer Walk With Thee," and many others.
