Proprietor of the "Kwik-e-mart", the local convenience store. Is an immigrant from India, and like most Simpsons characters is a caricature of a common stereotype - that of the South Asian convenience store owner.

Apu is married to Manjula, with octuplet children. He is a naturalized US citizen, and holds a PhD in computer science (his doctoral dissertation was a computer program which played perfect tic-tac-toe).
