Update

[edit]

Walking Liberty half dollar is done and now promoted to Good Article. I think it came out really well. So I did Washington quarter, that is done thanks to your images and I've sent that off for peer review. Having nothing better to do, I wrote United States Assay Commission which is a project. I need to get ahold of the Assay Commission records they were put out on DVD a couple years ago but they are hard to get ahold of. I may need to borrow a book or two from the ANA library. Fortunately, there is no pressure to get it promoted. Having written, I'll spend the next weeks polishing, then I will engage in another spurt of writing, etc.--Wehwalt (talk) 01:05, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I thought you could benefit from seeing the links here: Template:MedWelcome-reg. Best! Jesanj (talk) 17:48, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping out with Mayo Clinic, it is an important topic in U.S. health care. Jesanj (talk) 17:51, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. I work there so it's kind of a natural topic for me. :)--BrandonBigheart (talk) 17:53, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Very cool. I'd like to work there one day. Do take a look at this though. I'd recommend leaving a note at the talk page of Mayo so people know. Sometimes people get in a huffy when there is a conflict of interest, but that's mostly when people hide it. I can help out at the page to make sure it meets NPOV, as I've already done a little bit of. Since you've declared it (take a look at that), I think that's good. No worries. We're looking forward to having you around over the years. Thanks again. Jesanj (talk) 18:10, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A brownie for you!

[edit]
If you'd prefer coffee, tea, strawberries, baklava, a cheeseburger or a beer, I can swing it. Again, welcome. Jesanj (talk) 18:39, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Coin images

[edit]

Hello! I see that Wehwalt has already gifted you with a barnstar for your work with the coin images, but I would also like to thank you for your contributions in that field. I've been inactive here for some time, so the fine images that I found upon my return were a very welcome sight. As you probably know, we often dealt with very old, grainy photographs in lieu of any modern images with acceptable licenses. Yours really serve to modernize the articles. So, thanks again for your great work! I think I can safely say that we all appreciate it.-RHM22 (talk) 04:54, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I second that! Brandon, how are you on Indian Head cent and Flying Eagle? I'm doing those next. The Flying Eagle cent illustrated is maybe on licensing, but the Indian Head is just a straight copyvio! Happy for your help.--Wehwalt (talk) 18:28, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Brandon, would you like the file mover user right? It might prove useful while dealing with all your images.-RHM22 (talk) 15:58, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately they took back the user right on commons, but I've given you rollbacker and file mover rights on en.wiki. I don't pretend to understand commons. It shouldn't make any great difference. Apparently they want you to ask for it there. Idiots.--Wehwalt (talk) 13:15, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wehwalt, thanks for the note. I left a little reply on Pumpkin's page. --BrandonBigheart (talk) 15:34, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Well said. Sorry to disillusion you, this place is filled with drama. Try WP:AN/I or WP:AC. Hope it doesn't turn you off the place, there is much work to be done and basically no one to do it.--Wehwalt (talk) 17:02, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

Could you do me a favor and crop the painting of Adam Eckfeldt found here]? I can't use the frame, frame's are three-dimensional and thus there is a copyright issue, apparently (with the photographer, not with the frame itself). You're good with images. If you don't mind, then upload to Commons. Thanks.--Wehwalt (talk) 17:17, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What copyright tags should I attach to it? I haven't uploaded images of paintings before. --BrandonBigheart (TALK) 19:31, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just upload it as a new version of the lede image in the article (same painting) and change the source. I'll clean up anything that needs cleaning up. You should be aware of this page, which is very helpful.--Wehwalt (talk) 20:14, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I uploaded it as a separate image, thinking that the source and the fact that it was in color merited it being separate. The original B&W image was from a plate published in a book from 1893. I hope that's okay. --BrandonBigheart (TALK) 20:27, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine. Just trying to save you keystrokes. You did everything correctly. Just looked at the article, looks good, thanks. I'm going to take a run with Eckfeldt towards FA, but it's fourth or fifth in line.--Wehwalt (talk) 20:40, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all. I also hunted down from the original source (1893 Mint History book) who the artist was, and found a bit of information about him. He died in 1889, thus meriting the "100 years after death of the artist" tag. If you have any other requests of this sort, I'm happy to help out. --BrandonBigheart (TALK) 20:42, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I will!--Wehwalt (talk) 23:11, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
