Orichalcos refers to a story arc in the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (known internationally as simply Yu-Gi-Oh!).

Orichalcos is a magical power linked to the ancient city of Atlantis, which was destroyed thousands of years ago.

The Seal of Orichalcos

There is a Duel Monsters card aptly named "Seal of Orichalcos". This card is used by the Doom Organization in season 4. This card is also linked to the legendary dragons Timaeus, Critias, and Hermos. We have yet to find out more of the links to the lost city of Atlantis, the legendary Dragons, and why it is being used by the Doom Organization. The name "Seal or Orichalcos" is actually backwards; the Japanese-English translation is "Orichalcos of Seal" (Orichalcos no kekkai).

The official effect of the Seal of Orichalcos is unknown right now, but the following effects of it are known:

  • The monsters on the owner's side of the field will increase their attack by 500 and become of Darkness as well as keep their own attributes.
  • The owner can now play monsters in his/her spell and trap slots.
  • The monsters in the spell and trap slots cannot be attacked unless the monsters in the monster slots are destroyed.
  • Neither player can leave the duel, and the loser's soul is extracted his living body to be served as nourishment for the Great Leviathan.
  • This card shall not be destroyed by any force except the three legendary knights (Critias, Timaeus, and Helmos)or by the stone of orichalcos.

The Other Seals of Orichalcos

There are also two other seals of Orichalcos: Orichalcos Deuterosu ("second seal", 'Orichalcos Deutros' in English anime) and Orichalcos Toritosu ("third seal," 'Orichalcos Tritros' in English anime).

Orichalcos Deuterosu (Second Seal of Orichalcos):

  • Orichalcos Deuterosu can only be played if the Seal of Orichalcos is in play.
  • At each of your main phases, you gain 500 life points for every monster on your side of the field.
  • When an opponent direct damages to your life points, sacrifice 1 monster on your side of the field and negate all damage.

Orichalcos Toritosu (Third Seal of Orichalcos):

  • Orichalcos Tritorosu can only be played if both the Seal of Orichalcos and Orichalcos Deuterosu are in play.
  • You may negate the effect of trap and spell cards that target your monsters.

In the Doma (or Doom) Arc of Yu-Gi-Oh!, after Yugi Moto (Yugi Mutou in the manga version and Japanese version), Joey Wheeler (Katsuya Jonouchi in the manga and Japanese anime), and Seto Kaiba defeat Raphael, Valon (Varon in the Japanese version), and Alister (Amelda in the Japanese version) respectively, Yugi and Kaiba team together to face Dartz. Joey's soul was taken away by Mai Valentine (Mai Kujaku in the manga and the Japanese version), who started another duel after Joey defeats Valon.

Unless one possesses the three legendary dragons and Legend of Heart, it is impossible to defeat the three Seals of Orichalcos.
