Built to Spill began as an experimental band in 1993 for former Treepeople lead, Doug Martsch, out of Boise, Idaho (U.S.). The intent was to surround himself with a different band with each album. After the second Built to Spill line-up with 1994's There's Nothing Wrong With Love, Martsch decided to keep the same band together, consisting of Scott Plouf on drums and Brett Nelson on bass. Since then, the band has produced a number of successful albums, including Perfect from Now On (1997), Built to Spill Live (1998), Keep it Like a Secret (1999), The Normal Years (2000) and Ancient Melodies of the Future (2001). In 2002, Doug Martsch released his first solo album, Now You Know. As of March 2005, the band was finishing recording a mew studio album, tentatively scheduled to be released in September.
