Erlade (エルレイド, Erureido, Erlade in original Japanese language versions) is one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Erlade in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
Its name may be a combination of the word earl (a title meaning chieftain) and blade, referring to the blades on its arms.
Biological characteristics
Erlade is a human-like Pokémon that seems to be the male counterpart to Gardevoir. It appears to be modeled after a gladiator. The green hair on its head is very short and takes on the shape of a helmet; in the middle of its head is a gray blade causing it to appear as though it were wearing an ancient Greek or Roman helmet. On the sides of its white face, it has two small horns instead of the three horns that Gardevoir has. Like Gardevoir, its skin is white, it has two red half-valentine horns on its torso and back (although Erlade's are much sharper), and it has green arms shaped similarly to those of Gardevoir. On its chest is a green notch formed by the green skin on its arms angling downwards from its elbows and below the red horn on its torso, giving the impression that Erlade is wearing some form of vest or shirt. Unlike Gardevoir, its legs are masculine and thick, extending from a short, bulky skirt or kilt, further adding to its appearance as a Roman gladiator, and its hair does not pass its neck. Incredibly sharp green blades extend from Erlade's elbows, which Erlade uses skillfully and powerfully in battle. These blades can be retracted into Erlade's elbows when not in combat, possibly so that it does not somehow manage to hurt those it is close to. It has the same eyes as those of Gardevoir and its pre-evolutions, Ralts and Kirlia.
As its evolutionary line and Gardevoir resemble elegant female dancers, Erlade may be a dancer as well. If true, Erlade may be based partly on a traditional Brazilian dance called Maculelê, which involves dancing through expressive and athletic motions and a form of sword play.
In the video games
Erlade can only be acquired by using the Awakening Stone on a male Kirlia in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl or trading from another person's Diamond or Pearl version. This means that Erlade is always male without exception, but Gardevoir can either be male or female since Kirlia evolves normally at level 30 into Gardevoir.
Erlade's stats are the same as Gardevoir's, with one exception - Erlade's Attack stat is higher than his Special Attack, while Gardevoir's Special Attack stat is higher than its Attack. This means that Erlade's physical attacks are extremely powerful, on par with other Fighting-type Pokemon such as Machamp; conversely, his Special Attack is abysmal. Erlade is a Psychic and Fighting type, as opposed to Gardevoir's pure Psychic type, giving him dual Same Type Attack Bonuses as well as a weakness to Flying-types, though some attacks are not as effective against his dual Psychic- and Fighting-type (specifically, Flying and Ghost are super-effective; Dark, Psychic and Bug do normal damage). Overall, Erlade is equal to Gardevoir in terms of stats, but more versatile with his dual types.
Erlade's movepool centers mostly on the fact that it uses its blades in battle, learning attacks such as Blade Test, Psycho Cutter, and Leaf Blade; the latter move was exclusive to only Grovyle and Sceptile, but is now learned by other Pokémon, namely Erlade, Leafia and Tropius (through breeding, for the latter).
Erlade's ability, Humble Heart, raises his Speed every time an attack causes Erlade to flinch.
In the anime
The Pokémon anime series and films are a set of adventures separate from most other versions of Pokémon, featuring Ash Ketchum as the main character, and following his quest to become a Pokémon Master. He and his companions travel around the Pokémon world battling other Pokémon Trainers.
As of yet, Erlade has not made an appearance In the anime.
