Pink Martini is a band from Portland, Oregon, consisting of 12 band members. The band was brought together by Thomas M Lauderdale in 1994. Their debut album, Sympathique, was released on Pink Martini's own label, Heinz Records (named after Lauderdale's dog) in 1997. Over 650 000 copies of the record have been sold worldwide, and the band has performed at the Cannes Film Festival (their European debut), and went on to tour France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland, Monte Carlo, Greece, Turkey, Taiwan, Lebanon and the United States, among other countries. In October of 2004, the band released their second album, Hang On Little Tomato. Their CD release concert sold out so quickly that the band announced a second show night. In the transition from their first and second albums, singer China Forbes went from singing on a few tracks to being the band's lead vocalist. While Sympathique featured mostly covers, Hang On Little Tomato consists almost entirely of original works by Lauderdale and Forbes. Pink Martini songs appear in such films as In the Cut, Nurse Betty and Josie & the Pussycats, and have been used on television shows such as The Sopranos and The West Wing, among others.
