Welcome back
Chamaeleon - Welcome back. We missed you :) →Raul654 18:17, Jan 6, 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot, it's nice to be appreciated :-) Chamaeleon 18:24, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Hi Chamaeleon - Welcome home. I rather hoped you wouldn't be able to resist coming back. You'll find the place hasn't changed much whilst you've been away, but we've got the wallpaper up in the back room and are now looking at redoing the carpets on the landing. -- Solipsist 19:39, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I can see that the wet and dry rot I noticed before is still here. I'll get onto it straightaway. Chamaeleon 03:54, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Welcome back! I'll correct a couple of places where I had noted your departure! -- Jmabel | Talk 23:25, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)
Yay! You're back! We've missed you! Neutralitytalk 02:20, Jan 14, 2005 (UTC)
Macrons in the Wikipedia edit box
I don't know if you were responsible for the change, or just helping to notify different different areas such as Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles), about the change, but I appreciate it. I'd memorized the code for "ō", just because it is needed so often in transliterating Japanese, but I usually end up doing a copy & paste from my cheat-sheet for "ū". When I first noticed the Characters box, I wondered why they hadn't included the macrons as well, but I didn't have a clue as to who to contact to get them added. gK ¿? 03:13, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- No, I didn't add the macrons to the characters under the edit box. I was taking a break from the project when that happened, otherwise I would have had them added. As you can see, someone else did it anyway. I'm adding notes here and there pointing out the change, where this is helpful. Chamaeleon 03:54, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- hopefully en should be switching to utf-8 soon which should eliminate the need for theese entities. Also btw it seems that at lest in firefoc if i paste in a non latin-1 charachtor into an edit box for the en wikipedia it puts the relavent entity into the page automatically. Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències
Hi Chameleon,
Following the recent WP:FPC nomination of Avignon TGV station, I was thinking that something by Santiago Calatrava would be better and was considering nominating your photo of Image:Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències - L'Umbracle.jpg. However, I see that you have replaced the {cc-by-sa tag} with a {whatever} tag. I don't really understand - what gives? -- Solipsist 21:52, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Bah, I was just feeling unsatisfied with certain copyright issues and the silliness of them and so decided to make a declaration about my photos, but if you want to change it back to the Creative Commons template or whatever I don't really mind. Either way, the image is free and can be nominated Chamaeleon 01:15, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

In the phrase "acusándolo del copamiento del cuartel militar de Villa María" what is "copamiento"? Bombing? Or something else? -- Jmabel | Talk 05:20, Feb 5, 2005 (UTC)
- Copar and copamiento are terms derived from the French coup and used mainly in Latin America and/or in military parlance to refer to the assaulting, raiding, storming, taking or capturing of an enemy position. Chamaeleon 11:46, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Antisemitism and other stories
Complimenti! Have you studied Italian? Or maybe your mother or your father are Italian? Well, I'm Giulia from Italy and I study politics in Florence. I feel quite isolate here, because there is a little bit of US-centrism and anglocentrism in the English version (it couldn't be otherwise, but we have to correct this) Well, this story of antisemitism is quite annoying and TDC is unberable. He reverted my editing twice! I think that this story anti-Israel=antisemitic was born in the US. In America, as they told me, there is no freedom of speech at all in this period: if you are not with our crusade, you are a terrorist, an antismite etc. etc. In Italy of course just Oriana Fallaci thinks that! I'll see this famous page on antisemitism. But I fear I'm quite exausted of these querelles: on this paged I had to struggle with TDC, on the Italian page, curiously, I had to struggle with a guy who accused me of distorcing history because I had write on the page of discussion that the so-called communist states have been dictatures! Wow!--Juliet.p 14:35, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- No, my family is Irish and English. I taught myself Italian from a book. You don't have to feel isolated any more, because there are a few people who want to stop Wikipedia being too right-wing. TDC is one of the worst that you will find. Chamaeleon 17:48, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Hullo. If you have broadband, you may be interested in this presentation - [1]. In it, the fallacies of the idea of the right-wing fantasies of the New Anti-Semitism are deconstructed. The talk shows that ideas about a "New Anti-Semitism" have been cooked up whenever Israel experienced criticism, since the late 60's. - XED.talk 13:38, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I would like to revive Spanish Translation of the Week. Are you interested in working on it? — J3ff 05:58, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)
rime and rhyme
Hello, Chamaeleon.
I did the exactly same change to rime dictionary as you did to pinyin - changing "rime" to "rhyme", thinking the latter is common now. But Dylanwhs told me that "rime" is correct as far as Chinese syllables are concerned. See my talk page please. Could you please revert your change? - TAKASUGI Shinji 23:58, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Dylanwhs gave us linguistic resources that clearly distinguish rhyme and rime. Please check my talk page again. I think we should distinguish them too. - TAKASUGI Shinji 10:21, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
rime and final
Hi Chamaeleon... sorry I had to revert many of your edits that changed rime to final. Rime is the correct term that is used in general linguistic terminology. Final is typically used only when describing Chinese. I've reverted those changes that affected general linguistic articles but kept final in the Chinese articles where they made sense. -- Umofomia 23:53, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Felicidades
Chamaeleon 12:10, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

A self-appointed clique calling itself the Wikipedia:Office of Investigations has empowered itself to decide who is a "problem user" who needs to be "dealt with", primarily through arbitration. St Chad
Hi Chamaeleon,
If you're the same user as User:Chameleon, I've left a question about an edit you made ages ago on Talk:Chad of Mercia - I wondered if you'd want to comment? Thanks, TSP 19:44, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
The Advanced Wikipedian
Hi Chamaeleon,
Like the new photo on your user page. Looks like a cross between a Charles Babbage Difference Engine and an Edward Muybridge inspired Zoetrope.
- If only I had a decent camera — I could upload a photo in which you can see the whole sculpture clearly! Every metro station here has an installation like that. I wouldn't mind having good pics of them all. Chamaeleon 22:25, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
In any case, I'm guessing that you are a guy who knows how to write Iambic pentameter, in which case you might be able to improve, correct and extend meta:The Advanced Wikipedian. -- Solipsist 22:10, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Hi Chamaeleon, I've nominated you for adminship at Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Chamaeleon (wish I had spotted you credentials page before trying to count your edits - the subtle name change confused me for a good few minutes).
When you get a chance, there are some questions on the RFA page to complete - good luck. -- Solipsist 10:26, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Haha, it doesn't look like it's going very well. Chamaeleon 15:25, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Never mind my support. If you can get others such as crazyeddie and Kevin Baastalk to support you as well ( I think both of them are sick of Wikipedia's systemic systemic bias), you should have a larger following. Good luck. Ethereal 15:38, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
