Sorry, but there is no way I can compel with the instruction of not modifying this much too quick decision, reached after only a few days and only one (yes one) dismissive « just delete »)

  • Strongly oppose: the Principality of Neuchâtel is a former country, like the Republic of Venice, the Republic of Geneva, or the Soviet Union. It lasted for a least 500 years, and this type of categories, such as Category:Bankers from the Principality of Neuchâtel, Category:Philanthropists from the Principality of Neuchâtel, Category:Merchants from the Principality of Neuchâtel, or Category:Geographers from the Principality of Neuchâtel, are completely justified, even if they now contain only a few entries: there is a clear potential of growth in each of them. --Sapphorain (talk) 21:44, 18 November 2023 (UTC) ‎ ‎[reply]

I'm not sure. Homemaking is a definitely an occupation which is as defining as any other, perhaps more so in many cases since it is a permanent position. Nominator's rationale: This category should be deleted, merged, split, renamed, or otherwise dealt with, because it appears to be an arbitrary cross of two incompatible parent categories that yields something that doesn’t belong to the category tree at all, much less to either parent.
The parents are Category:Sportspeople by country of work and Category:Families by nationality. Their genetically challenged child is just named “by country,” but the definition at Category:Categories by country tells us that “This category is for non-people articles or works. Category:People with obsessive–compulsive disorder

  • It is a fair point that we should have a look at the whole mental disorders tree. The problem is that incidentally people are notable especially because of their mental disorder but in most cases it is merely a footnote. A third group is criminals with mental disorders.     That may be true that their notability doesn't have to do with their disability, but they are defining characteristic for the person. I'd also oppose deleting other mental disorders, as this could easily fall into a value judgment territory of why are psychological disabilities not defining, but physical disabilities are. Per, WP:EGRSD: "In general, Categorization by ethnicity, gender, religion, sexuality, or disability is permitted." Mason (talk) 23:09, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    (Apologies if this sounds bludgeoning, that's not my intent...). It seems that there's already guidance on this, WP:DISABILITYCAT, specifically:
    "People with disabilities [...] and other [...] psychological [...] conditions, should not be added to subcategories of Category:People with disabilities, [...] or Category:People by medical or psychological condition unless that condition is considered WP:DEFINING for that individual. For example, there may be people who have amnesia, but if reliable sources don't regularly describe the person as having that characteristic, they should not be added to the category."

Support Maintaining separate categories leads us to making estimations in specific cases on whether someone was bisexual or either a gay man or lesbian; not always an easy distinction. The fact that we continue to use the generalised acronym LGBT suggests that it reasonable as a category here, rather than a need to subdivide. Comment. Although I agree that this is more concise, my gut reaction to this rename was pretty negative. I'm still thinking through why that reaction is, but I suspect that their some negative connation in American English that I'm struggling to articulate. Category:New Zealand Māori men

  • Oppose: ethnicity by gender categories are widespread (e.g. Category:African-American men, Category:Native American men, Category:European men and not obviously trivial in the manner of the examples cited in WP:OCEGRS, which doesn't actually provide a gender example. If the proposer wishes to change / define policy in this area, it would be better to start with a major category that will attract proper discussion, rather than one like this which few will notice). Gender is important in Maori culture and people are regularly noted specifically as being tane Maori or wahine Maori (Maori men or Maori women). The nominator has been preemptively moving men out of this category to Category:Māori tribal leaders, but the latter are sometimes women, so unless this category is deleted, these changes should be reverted.
