I

[edit]

I think there should be a more detailed explanation about the two formulas given for calculation of plasma osmolality. The text is written in such a way that the reader is lead to believe the difference between the two formulas is just a mater of units, and that is not the case! Some remark should be made about the validity of droping the potassium concentration from the osmolality calculation Why is it no dropped in the first equation ?... difference between molarity and molality

[edit]

There is a difference between molarity (amount of solute per unit volume of solution) and molality (moles of solute per kilogram solvent). They are very different measurements. The article implies that they are synonyms. If this is a typical misunderstanding among medical practitioners, the difference could be stressed here for educational purposes. Perhaps there needs to be a section in the article about the difference between the two measurements, and clarification of which one we are actually measuring with this calculation. Requested move

[edit]

Plasma osmolalityPlasma osmotic pressure — As a remedy to the above problem, it would help if the page name was "unit neutral." The general concept is one of osmotic pressure, while plasma osmolarity or plasma osmolality imply specific units. Osmotic pressure can be measured in either unit, so the name of the general concept should be "osmotic pressure." Mba123 (talk) 13:29, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Solubility and Osmolality?

[edit]

What's the difference? Is Osmolality just the amount of solubles per water in a solution? --Waqqashanafi (talk) 14:38, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
