The third book of the Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paolini will be the last book of the series. It is the second sequel to Eragon and the sequel to Eldest. A title has been chosen but not released.[1]

According to the Eldest pocket edition released worldwide the third book will be released in late 2007 (Most likely August since both book one and two were released that month) for some countries and for others early 2008.[citation needed] This would go with the pattern that every book in the Inheritance Trilogy was released the same summer as the latest Harry Potter book; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is to be released on July 21, 2007.

In the Eragon Newsletter March 2006 Paolini writes near the end that the book is coming along nicely and that he has a battle to write. [2]

  • The content of the cover is one of the few things confirmed by Paolini. Apparently the cover will feature an emerald green dragon looking to the right.[3]

This Green Dragon must be the last dragon egg to hatch that Galbatorix holds, so there are 4 dragons.

In March of 2006, Christopher Paolini was interviewed by David of the fan site www.shurtugal.com and he revealed the following information:[4]

  • When a dragon and Dragon Rider become linked, the Rider's magic immediately takes on the color of the dragon's scales. Paolini states that although Eragon's magic is blue, he could produce red fire if he wanted to.
  • At the end of Eldest, the Varden still favor Nasuada in terms of leadership, but Paolini has hinted that in book 3 this might change.
  • Paolini has said that it is possible that Eragon may have unknown family members that have not been introduced so far in the series, though he did not confirm this.
  • Paolini also mentioned that in book 3 it will be revealed if Saphira ever finds a mate.
  • More information about Tornac (Murtagh's old friend and trainer) will be revealed.
  • Elva, along with "every other character," will have an important role to play.

Paolini answered some questions for his fans on his official site in July and August 2006[5] and gave a video interview in December 2006 to promote the movie.[6]

  • It is unclear how Thorn, Murtagh's dragon, matured to rival Saphira despite their age difference, but Christopher Paolini has stated that it will be revealed in the third book of the trilogy.
  • The nature of the spirits that sorcerers summon will be revealed; already it has been stated that they are not the souls of sentient creatures returned from the afterlife.

In February 2007, Paolini answered an Open Letter[7] of the Czech fan site www.alagaesie.net. The Open Letter was delivered to the author via his Czech publisher Fragment. He answered the following questions regarding Book 3 of the Inheritance trilogy:

  • Information about Brom's lover (referred to by Angela) will be revealed.
  • Eragon has yet to acquire a new weapon. Many fans think that this will be a blue sword to follow the tradition that a Rider should have a sword whose blade has the same color as his dragon.
  • More about dwarf culture will be revealed.
  • More of Arya's background will be revealed.
