The Star Trek Encyclopedia: A Reference Guide to the Future is an encyclopedia of all things related to Star Trek. The most recent edition was published in 1999; this edition goes up to the end of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the fifth season of Star Trek: Voyager, and the movie Star Trek: Insurrection. All editions were published by Pocket Books, and Paramount Pictures holds the copyrights.

The Encyclopedia features very detailed information about characters, planets, technologies, ships, and so on, as well as brief synopses of episodes and movies. It also features many different diagrams, from examples of different writing systems to the evolution of uniforms and shuttlecraft. The book is filled with pictures, most of them in color.

As a rule, the Encyclopedia only covers canon, which in Star Trek includes the TV shows and the movies. Although Star Trek also includes an animated series and a huge number of fiction books, these don't have canon status, and are thus not covered by the Encyclopedia.

The Encyclopedia was written by Michael and Denise Okuda and illustrated by Doug Drexler. The first edition was published in 1994 and was co-written with Debbie Mirek.
