Thanks for testing! — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 03:06, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to fix these issues temporarily! I appreciate it! ArielGold 03:08, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Help. I'm not sure where to go from here. Two users have been going back and forth adding and removing the Canadian Flag Icon from Elisha Cuthbert's infobox.[1]. I've asked them to discuss it on the talk page[2][3](twice, in the latter case!) and although one has started talks he still reverted the edit on the article. I feel like I could bang their heads together! Any suggestions? — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 03:33, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Posted on the article's talk page. I hope that will help! ArielGold 03:48, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you! — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 03:54, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
I also commented on the image size, referring to the WP:MOS on images. Making images larger is not something that's a good idea, so I suggested leaving them at default, due to users who may be using large text or lower screen resolutions. ArielGold 03:55, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Now I know where to find the arguments against changing the image size in the future. Wiikipedian has been a frustration for a while. I'm sure his work is in Good Faith, but some of his changes seem odd, and he seldom leaves an edit summary meaning it's hard to understand why he's doing something. He also frequently blanks his talk page, which, while permitted on user talk pages does make following any issues rather difficult (or checking if it's a repeat issue). When I patiently explain a situation to him, he does seem to listen, eventually. It's the time between the telling and the listening that's frustrating! Sorry for venting, but hey, I'm sure you can take it! :) — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 04:06, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm sorry you were dragged into it, hopefully they can resolve it amongst themselves. Of course, edit summaries like this aren't really helpful, either, they both were doing that. I'm not sure what the concerns are regarding that tiny little image being included, and yet making other images oversized. To me, the flag icon seems completely valid to add to infoboxes, and is done quite often, so we shall see. It is really a silly thing to get into an edit war over, (Have you seen this? lol it is hilarious, and really puts things into perspective!) And Timothy, feel free to vent to me anytime you like! I may not have the answers, but I'm good at listening! ArielGold 04:16, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! Yes, I did see that, I found it after some random link following the other night, and was chuckling over it. BTW, I auto-watch pages I edit (until I get fed up of them), so I'll always check for replies here. :) Thank you! — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 04:20, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay, yes I do the same thing, to avoid fragmented conversations, but I usually pop over and leave a replied note, just in case. Nice to know I don't have to do that with you! Thanks again for asking my advice, I only hope that the situation can get resolved without further troubles! ArielGold 04:21, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Do you like your current userpage? ArielGold 04:22, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Re:Adminship

So you watchlist RfAs ahead of time too? :) Love, Neranei (talk) 22:39, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Hee hee, yes, when I notice someone else mentioning them, I do. ArielGold 22:42, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Me too, I've got yours watchlisted! :P Love always, Neranei (talk) 22:43, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Lmao, I appreciate the vote of confidence! ArielGold 22:50, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
You know I'd !vote for you in a heartbeat. Neranei (talk) 22:52, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Huh, too bad RfA's are not decided via voting, huh? ArielGold 22:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I hope when you feel you are ready, you come to me. If all else fails, I would really like to co-nom you if you choose to pursue adminship. If not, no worries either! I will gladly be here to help you out. No matter HOW busy I am, poke me real quick and ill be here quicker that you can blink! Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 22:54, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Chris, I would be most honored to have your support, and even more honored if you wanted to co-nom. You know I adore you, and the only reason I'm not bugging you every day, is that I really respect your busy schedule. (But it takes a lot of restraint! lol). The support offered from both of you means a great deal to me, please know that. ArielGold 22:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I would be glad to help coach you a little. I keep taking breaks from ym reading/programming/studying to click on my handy "WIKI:WATCH" shortcut button hoping for a mission/distraction and am all too often dissapointed! Feel free top stop by any time or check your MSN from time to time too! Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 23:49, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I would also co-nom in a heartbeat, no matter how much homework lands in my lap. Love always, Neranei (talk) 23:28, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Damn you all!!! I wanted to nom her first!!! Darn it. :-) Just so you know, you have my full support. --Boricuæddie 23:31, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

ROFL No worries, dear Squid Guy, this is not something that's happening now. Is there a limit to co-noms? lol. ArielGold 23:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh, and, as a small suggestion from a guy who frequents RfA, I suggest you become a wee bit more active at AfD. Other than that, you're ready for the mop :-) --Boricuæddie 23:34, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Yep I have dipped my toes in there, for a few weeks now, but nothing major, just supporting mostly. I'll keep on plugging away! Thanks Squid Guy! ~*Grin*~ ArielGold 23:36, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, I won't offer a co-nom as you've got enough already, but you will certainly have my support. Oh, and guys - stop the flirting! :-) :-) Ryan Postlethwaite 23:45, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Ryan, that means a lot to me, thank you. We've not really had the chance to have a good conversation, but I've respected you from a distance for a while now, and knowing that you are behind me if/when this happens is really appreciated. Thank you. (And hey, nothing wrong with flirting! lol) ArielGold 23:49, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Flirt away! Ari, please drop me a line when this happens; I'd love to co-nom! (and this way, no one can oppose for canvassing, lol. :) Love, Neranei (talk) 00:02, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
I vote that we get your RfA going! Neener neener, lol. ArielGold 00:04, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
You're right, I shouldn't be bugging you! I'm such a hypocrite,lol. :) I just got an offer, in fact...Neranei (talk) 00:05, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
I know, why do you think I added the RFA page to my watchlist? lol. And that's not being a hypocrite, no worries, lol. ArielGold 00:07, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I dunno when it may happen, it may be a little while. Here's a quote for you: "Insanity is simply being a minority of one." :) Love, Neranei (talk) 00:09, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Ariel you've got the co-noms, so I'll bring the cake and ice cream, and a tiara to boot. :P ~Eliz81(C) 00:40, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

If you haven't seen it, this is pretty cool. Dreadstar 19:09, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Lord Dreadstar, my dear, go look at my user page, lol. I have that right there on the bottom. ArielGold 19:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
D'oh! Dreadstar 19:35, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Or should I say, "Just call me D'oh!star, the Lame!" lol... Dreadstar 19:38, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Watchlisted -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 19:26, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
LOL silly Flyguy! This isn't something that's imminent, lol. You'll have your plate full soon enough once you're an admin, my dear! But, everyone, Eliz, Chris, Flyguy, Dreadstar, Neranei, and everyone else who has mentioned it to me, just the fact that you think I may be able to succeed at an RfA at some point in the future, means a lot to me, truly, and I'm honored just by that. Thank you to all of you. ArielGold 19:33, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
I was just going to say that I'm guessing you want to wait until you've been regularly active for longer. Take your time, don't feel pressured! Flyguy649 talk contribs 19:35, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
You got my vote, m'lady! Dreadstar 19:39, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, granted I've been here for 2+ years, watching and learning, (I don't like to dive in before knowing about things, so I tend to "lurk" for a long time) and I just have a lot of time on my hands lately, so yeah my count has exploded. My time freedom isn't likely to change, but I can see how only 3 months of editing may be seen as a negative, yeah. But there is no rush, as long as I have wonderful friends like you all, Chris and other administrators to run to with my questions, I'm happy. ArielGold 19:41, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Ariel - I can't wait for your RFA. It would be a great honour just to be allowed to support you. I look forward to it. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 00:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Your userpage

Please explain why you claim credit for the design on your userpage when you clearly copied it off User:Antandrus. Claiming credit for the work of others is not right. Aeon Flux 10:30, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I have never been to that editor's page, and I got my design idea from Template:Filefolder, which was created by User:Trevor MacInnis and refined by User:Phaedriel, and I freely admit that I got it from there, I don't claim I "made" the tabbed design at all. Re;Signpost

Hey, thanks! It's my first one, so I am quite proud. How are you these days? Love always, Neranei (talk) 21:24, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm good, thanks! Are you going to keep writing for Signpost now regularly? That would be cool! ArielGold 21:49, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Maybe, if they need me. Do you ever write for them? It would be cool! Love, Neranei (talk) 23:53, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Heh, nope I haven't. I think you should think about it though, your submission was very good! ArielGold 23:54, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Really? Thanks, it was a bit daunting as I'm only 13 *Gasp* *shock* *horror*. Love, Neranei (talk) 00:12, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
There is no way, seriously?? ArielGold 00:37, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Yup! It's true! Why, how old did you think I was? Love, Neranei (talk) 00:41, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
I dunno, I mean, I guess I never really thought about it, but I didn't think you were 13, lol. You write exceedingly well for an age when normally, kids are writing in "leet speak" and "IM speak" and other various issues, lol. I beg you, please never resort to that, lmao. ArielGold 00:43, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, language is something I've always loved. I guess that's why I have thought that Wikipedia is one of the better meritocracies out there, as you aren't judged on age or disability, but on how well you contribute. That's one of the things I really love about this place. I do speak fluent chatspeak, but hardly ever use it. I was very surprised when the Signpost accepted my article, that's for sure! Neranei (talk) 00:47, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

LMAO I'm sorry, I just have to laugh, I don't think I've ever heard someone your age use the word "meritocracy", lmao. Okay, Mommy Ariel speech coming up: Go to college. Get an advanced degree (at least a master's, but preferably a Ph.D.), and don't get sidetracked by anything (ahem, boys) until you're done! There. I'm done. ArielGold 00:50, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, I enjoy Orwell and Huxley, so there ya go. As I am considered an uber-geek at school for my Wikipedia activities, boys are not too much of a problem, lol. And you sound exactly like my mom, so if you don't mind my asking, do you have kids? 'Cause you are really good at that! Love, Neranei (talk) 00:53, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Nope, I don't. I have a niece your age, though, and I've given her that speech about a thousand times, lol. ArielGold 00:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, it's the same with everybody, I guess! By the way, I'm sorry I haven't had time to work on WP:KIS lately, I've had a lot of work and have been redoing User:Politics rule's user page (it needs it!) Love, Neranei (talk) 00:57, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I noticed that, and omg yes his page was, um... messy? lol, that's awesome you're undertaking that project! (no offence, PR!) ArielGold 00:59, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry about the KIS stuff, I will get back to it as soon as I finish his new page, which is getting there. And it was up for MFD before...He's quite a nice person, though I am his political opposite! Love, Neranei (talk) 01:01, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
How could a userpage get put up for MfD? lol. I mean, unless it was blatant breaking of copyright issues or something, I guess. And don't worry about the KIS stuff, there's no rush and I haven't done anything either, lol. ArielGold 01:02, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

P.S. You might want to fix his "live in" link to Bel Air, Maryland, as it is red link right now, and Bel Air is two words (and a disamb page). ArielGold 01:05, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

I will fix the link, thanks for pointing that out! And it was MFD'd for being an utter disaster, but was closed as a speedy keep. And, I have a great word for you: "Tragicomedy". Sorry, that is so cool! (I'm a logophile!)And for KIS, I'm going to try to finish the states ASAP. Oh, and have you visited our friend DHMO yet? Love, Neranei (talk) 01:07, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
I have, yes, I beat you there! Neener neener neener. ArielGold 01:10, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
:P, indeed you did. Cool name, huh? Love, Neranei (talk) 01:11, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Hard to type, lol. Especially when your fingers go faster than your brain, LMAO ArielGold 01:14, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
That's how I am, sigh. Neranei (talk) 01:16, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

revisions to "KCBS-TV"

You are quite correct about this article's length and lack of sourcing; I was going to add citations as I edited but instead decided to rewrite the article then fill in the blanks. I have decided to revert the article to its previous state (before I began my edit) so as not to leave in my wake an unsourced (and perhaps overly long) version. I believe the material is scrupulously factual, but I'll let others who know it as well or better add sourcing I may not have. Thank you. 76.103.43.63 23:38, 7 September 2007 (UTC)nick (76.106.43)76.103.43.63 23:38, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey thanks for letting me know! I was a bit concerned with the amount of information added, but it did not appear to be of any copyright concerns, so I let it go, and instead, chose to add the helpful tags for other editors to supply references. Feel free to add your information, as it seemed valid (though granted, I only skimmed it), and work on it as you are comfortable. Another thing you may consider doing is to add your references to the article's talk page, if you're unsure how to properly cite them, and other editors would be more than happy to add them! And again I really appreciate you letting me know, thanks! (Also please see your talk page, as I've explained the issue there as well) ArielGold 23:42, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey. It's Nick Dufresne. I'm new at the articles thing, and any tips would be apreciated.Nick Dufresne 00:30, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Nick! Please review your talk page, I've added a number of helpful links and information that I hope can assist you, and if you'd like, I'd be more than happy to add some more! Thanks for contacting me to clarify things, I appreciate it! ArielGold 00:33, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Hey. It's Nick. I didn't even know I deleted the speedy deletion tag. Sorry.Nick Dufresne 00:36, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Not a problem Nick! Check your talk page (click the yellow bar at the top that says you have new messages), I've answered a number of questions for you! Let me know if you'd like me to drop a table of links there for your reference, Cheers! ArielGold 00:36, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. That would be great. Nick Dufresne 00:39, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Will do, I'll remove the notices as well, since you've read them and your mistake was one of inexperience, here they come! ArielGold 00:40, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks from nick (usually known as 76.103.43.63)

Hey...thank you for your message of support.
I am a relatively new Wikipedian and am just now warming to the business of editing. My enthusiasm may lead me to voraciously edit articles with perhaps a casual attitude toward verification. My revision of "KCBS-TV" is an example. And it may be just too darn long anyway. I appreciate the notifications as well as the support; I really want to do things the proper way. Goodbye for now. Nick 76.103.43.63 02:52, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Dear Nick, you're most welcome, and no worries! If you ever need to find a policy or area, feel free to use the "Bookmarks" link at the top of this page, as it will probably be found there. Cheers! ArielGold 03:03, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

IP 84.178.206.65 blanked this person's userpage, which I then reverted[4]. They then dropped me a note on my talk page about Self Promotion[5]. On the one hand, it's an anonymous IP and all they've done is blank that page. On the other, they do seem to have a good point, and also Pearljr hasn't been active in quite some time. As I'm not the only one to have reverted their blanking, which now may be Good Faith rather than Vandalism, I thought I'd ask your opinion. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 05:17, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I noticed that as well. You could probably {{G11}} tag that under advertising if you want, it qualifies since it leads to off-sites for promotional purposes. ArielGold 05:21, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

UserPage

eh, it could do with some work. Why, are you offering to redesign it for me? :) — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 04:28, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I'd be happy to, if you wanted, I recently did Eliz81's, and Jakew's, and Eliz's got placed into the Userpage Hall of Fame, which is pretty cool. I'd want to know your color preference, of course, and if you're a minimalist (like, would you prefer the userboxes in a show/hide config, etc.,) but it is entirely up to you. I just noticed that on your "to do" list was finish your userpage, so I thought I'd ask. ArielGold 04:33, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Timotab you can't go wrong, Ariel's brilliant! :) I can't wait to see the before and after. Seriously we need a Userpage redesign show on TLC. ~Eliz81(C) 06:01, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, thanks Eliz, but he hasn't said he'd like me to do it, yet. ArielGold 06:07, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
How's your day been, Ariel? ~Eliz81(C) 06:48, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Good I guess, kind of slow, and I'm getting tired, lol. I think I'll be heading off here in a few as soon as I finish fixing this page I stumbled upon. lol. ArielGold 06:50, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm getting tired too. Have a good night! :) ~Eliz81(C) 07:00, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
You too, dear, sleep well! ArielGold 07:01, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
It's conceivable. I'm a purple and green kind of guy. and I need something to cheer me up, I'm in the hospital. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 23:57, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh my gosh Timothy, are you okay? I understand if you don't want to discuss it here, but I hope it is not serious and you're home and well soon! ArielGold 00:00, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Discuss it? I'm blogging it! :) — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 00:12, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
LOL well it gives you something to take your mind off things, that's wild that you can do that, when I worked in ICUs (okay granted, most of my patients couldn't talk, much less blog) there was certainly no computer access in patient rooms, lol. I hope you're home soon! ArielGold 00:15, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Ah, well, as you have a medical background, the short version is 2 weeks ago, I had an emergent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Liver function tested 100% normal day after surgery. Day 10 I had severe abdominal pain which faded after about 45 minutes, but that was followed by very dark urine, and slightly jaundiced eyes. Suspected post-hepatic blockage. ERCP revealed a gallstone which was removed. It was missed in the original surgery because a cholangiogram had been deemed too risky. Will probably be going home tomorrow, subject to liver function tests returning to normal. Feel free to read the blog if you want more information. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 00:25, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I actually already read your blog. I worked in Endocrinology/Nephrology, so I fully understand the issues, and hopefully your LFTs will return to normal and not be of any issue, so you can get booted on home. Either way though, gallstones are not at all fun, and I am sorry you're having to go through this! ArielGold 00:28, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm doing much better. and for the avoidance of doubt, yes, please feel free to make a userpage for me (but I'd prefer if you would do so on a subpage before making it live on my userpage. Thanks — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 03:07, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

I like it a fair amount, but... I really don't like the hidey-things. Oh, and I have a barnstar on my talk page that could be added in too. Thanks  — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 04:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
I think I prefer horizontal barnstars, as originally given. Otherwise, it looks great. I'll be looking over the code to make sure I understand it all, and then I'll let you know. Thanks! — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 05:20, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, yes, I do like it! If I didn't like it at all, I wouldn't have made the suggestions. But I'm a geek person and want to understand the code before I install it. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 05:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh that's fine, I just wanted to know if you liked it or if it would be worth trying another type. I've made it as easy as I can to help you understand, with invisible comments explaining which sections are which, so it should be pretty easy for you to edit and personalize to your liking. ArielGold 05:57, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm back home now, feeling much better. Tum-te-tum. *wanders around whistling a tune while trying very hard to look innocent* — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 01:10, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Bangs....head....on....wall

Dearest Ariel!! Since you have weighed in at UAA and RFCN, you must understand my predicament. I have now been admonished by both UAA and RFCN admins for incorrect reports. I have no idea what to do anymore. I'm trying to ensure that inappropriate usernames get reported appropriately (ha, ha), trying to ensure Rspeer's concerns are heard, and all I can do is throw up my hands. :( Advice, thoughts, happy unrelated thoughts to share? ~Eliz81(C) 21:51, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

I can understand the frustration, and as little as my opinion is worth, here are my suggestions. There will be names that are just heinously, obvious, egregious violations. Report those to UAA. For those (non-advertisement) names that you stop and think, "hrmmmm", I'd take to RFCN. You have good sense, and I believe you know what would be a huge obvious violation. For business type names that have not edited at all, place the {{usernameconcern}} template on the page, (be sure to subst: it: {{subst:usernameconcern}} ) and wait. If they contribute in an advertisement sort of way, their behavior will be considered along with the name. If they have contributed, created an obvious advertisement, report to UAA. If they contribute with non-advertisement edits, request opinions at RFCN. The bottom line that you've just happened to run into, is that everyone has varied opinions about what is, and what is not blatantly offensive, and it may just be that others see some things differently. Don't let it get you down, if they're rejected at UAA, take to RFCN, that's what it is there for! But don't stress over it, dear one, you're doing fine! ArielGold 22:00, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the sound advice and encouragement, dearest Ariel (and the reminder to subst: is a good one: I totally forgot!). I found it quite disheartening that in effect, both Rspeer and Secretlondon were telling me I was makes incorrect reports (i.e., placing a report where it doesn't belong), and giving me directly contradicting information. I take this stuff very seriously since I'm quite conscientious, it is so important to me to do the right thing. I don't care if the debated 'p' usernames belong at UAA or RFCN, so long as I know the appropriate place to them. Le sigh! :) Hugs, ~Eliz81(C) 22:16, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
With a large community such as this, you're bound to run into conflicting issues and opinions, and you just have to weigh in common sense with your own instincts, and then if still in doubt, ask others their opinions. That is the wonderful thing about WP:RFCN, because while should place the usernameconcern template on the user's page prior to reporting it there, in some cases (such as the last one you submitted) it wasn't needed. I try to assume good faith on most of the "advertising" sounding names, unless they have .com, .net, etc., in their names (those, by the name alone, can be considered promotional) and wait until they contribute to judge. There are many company names out there, and it is feasible that someone created a name without knowing there was a company with the same name. But again, this is just how I do things, and not in any way intended to tell you how to do things. Also having experienced admins who participate regularly in RFCN to go to with questions is really helpful, and I'd recommend Flyguy (hopefully soon to be an admin) and AD as two of the best with username concerns. Will you help me create the article on Tamao Sato, though? 24.14.216.60 23:59, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

You can just resubmit it to WP:AFC so if someone else can get to it first, they will. Please add the link to the discussion on the help page as a place for review (not as a reference/source), copy and paste this link:
[[Wikipedia:Help_desk#Tamao_Sat.C5.8D_.28related.29_questions|Help Desk thread]]
That will help if I'm not the one to review it, thanks! ArielGold 00:06, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

???

But if I do that, they'll keep rejecting my article! :(

You'll have to create the article for me, Ariel. I really don't know what to do. I gave up trying to create the article without it being declined. 24.14.216.60 00:11, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

You know it was Ariel Gold who was declining the previous versions, right? It was lucky that she also reads the help desk. Leebo T/C 00:12, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, not only me, I declined two out of four. However, I commented on two submissions, requesting other editors assist me. If you use the sources that Leebo gave you, it should be no problem. WP:AFC is the proper avenue to go through to create an article, and honestly, since I have zero knowledge of this actress or genre I am not sure I would be the right person to create the article. If you submit it, I will place a template to request assistance, how's that? And if it is closed, I will re-open it, and comment on the issues. But you have to add all those sources Leebo gave you on the Help Page, okay? Is that fair? ArielGold 00:14, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

-_-

That is neither going to help, nor does it answer my question.24.14.216.60 00:27, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Seriously!

I can't seem to create it without it being declined! And for the last time, I gave up trying to create it, because it kept being declined!

You have to create it for me, Ariel. If I continue to create it, they'll just keep refusing to accept it, and now it's getting too hard for me, and I can't do it anymore! :( (begins to cry) I can't do it without it getting declined. If you don't, it will never be available on wikipedia, ever! You're my only hope of creating it, Ariel! You may be the only one who can create it, so you and Leebo can work together to create it for me, okay?

Hi

Hi. I got a message about making a change to the Once on this Island page. I made that change because that movie does not exist, if it does the writer needs to provide a source. Is that not how it works? -Siri —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.31.30.126 (talk) 00:29, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Hiya, I reviewed what you were referring to, and I guess it was the edit you made here, that removed information from the article. The proper procedure if you suspect a hoax, isn't to blank the information, but rather to discuss it on the article's talk page, and request that a registered editor submit it to WP:AFD if proper verification can't be found. So that's why I reverted, and let you know that your edit removed information. I am not familiar with the subject, so I cannot give an opinion of if it is a hoax or not. However, the article has a pretty long history associated with it, so I'm not sure if this is technically a WP:HOAX or not, as so many have edited it. When an article is unsourced, instead of removing the information (unless it is defamatory or offensive, of course), simply place at the top of the page, the following cleanup tag: {{Unreferenced}}, and that will let other editors know the article needs to have references. Hope that explains things! ArielGold 00:37, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

New Article

Hi. I tried to submit a new article for my Last.fm project, called "Bigsexyshaq". It was declined because I didn't have a third-party source. I have a third-party link that confirms the claims made. http://www.theotherjournal.com/article.php?id=166&cview=1 As far as I know, this is a professional site with editorial oversight.

Thanks, Tom —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigsexyshaq (talkcontribs) 03:20, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your message, if you read through this list you'll find the details of the criteria for notability. Also, as mentioned on your talk page, you can review the reliable sources guideline. In general, anyone notable will have multiple mentions in newspapers, magazines, or other reliable publications. Blogs in general, as mentioned, are not considered reliable sources, especially with consideration to one of the core policies of Wikipedia, neutrality. Additionally, the concerns of your conflict of interest still stand, "COI editing often involves contributing to Wikipedia in order to promote yourself or the interests of other individuals, companies, or groups. When an editor disregards the aims of Wikipedia to advance outside interests, they stand in a conflict." If you are notable enough, someone else will likely create (or request) an article about you. Hope that clears things up! ArielGold 03:25, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Well generally those kind of links qualify under the same standards outlined in the basic WP:EL guideline. This section addresses it directly.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 04:33, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

That's a perfectly acceptable way to explain it. It is quite fine for you to remove something considered "avoidable." Also an article about a surfer doesn't really require a youtube video to verify facts in that article. A Question For Ariel

You seem to report to UAA with Twinkle. I feel so foolish, but I can't find out how to. Help? i said 04:41, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello i !! (hee hee) At the top, the 'arv' tab. Click it, and use the pulldown menu to select "username". Then check the box with the appropriate concern, and type any additional comments in the box at the bottom. Should work for you, let me know if that helps. ArielGold 04:47, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Ah. Thanks. As a side note, you should change your header where it says you respond on their talk page, since you respond here usually. Just a thought. i said 05:13, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, actually I do usually drop a note on the person's talk page as well, but I figured you'd be checking back, as you have in the past when we communicate, so I didn't do it for you. Sowwy! ArielGold 05:16, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually, talk page communication can be kind of tough with this. If you reply on the user's talk page, you can be sure they'll get the bar and know when and if you've answered. If you reply on your own talk page, there is a risk that others won't see it. I've seen some users take the approach of keeping conversations together on *both* talk pages by cutting and pasting so both talk pages have the complete conversation. This is definitely the biggest pain in the behind way to do it, but I'm sure it makes reading through archives a lot easier to understand, presuming not more than 2 users are in the thread. ~Eliz81(C) 08:12, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Very true. I try to summarize at least usually, but sometimes I just know the person will be watching here, so I don't post it on their talk page. Maybe I'll start doing it more often. ArielGold 08:19, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

You're very welcome, Jessa Jessica, but I would also request that you note the username policy, because your name is most likely going to be an issue with regards to promotional usernames, and I'd strongly suggest that you change it, before it becomes a problem. Additionally, please do not promote your product/company, on talk pages or on help pages. The use of your company name and website does not relate to the context, and can again, be seen as purely promotional. Thanks! ArielGold 00:38, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

I think I have really finished it off correctly now!
Graeme Bartlett 01:32, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
New bands appearing in wikipedia are usually not notable. For that particular one there were no claims of notability, just a history and the recordings. If there are no claims then I don't look for more information to see if they got a top 10 hit or a mention in two major newspapers. The writer would have mentioned that sort of fact already. When to look is if there are notability claims, but the sources are not good, and you like the article! However if there is a historic band, rather than a current one, then they probably are notable and the absence of information is due to recent history bias on the internet. Graeme Bartlett 06:58, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Fungus

So, you, who I just realised is not an admin (and why not?), I know you are knowledgeable. Fungusdude, Fungusfreak, Fungusperson, Funguscheese and Funguslube are all the same person (see the latter's userpage - he's proud of it all), all have been blocked as vandal only accounts. What's the correct way to see if they all came from the same IP, to see if that IP can be blocked? — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 01:57, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Well, since all those accounts are blocked, aside from watching for new accounts, there doesn't seem to really be any reason to request a checkuser. Those are normally done for active suspected editors using sockpuppets, to confirm if they are indeed, the same person. In this case, his admittance would seem to be all that is needed to place the sockpuppet tag on the user pages, and block. Checkuser is considered a very last resort, when all other methods of connecting several editors to the same person have failed. You could list the names at suspected sock puppets I guess, for others to add names as needed, or for Admins to refer to when the name arises doing vandalism. But it is pretty much established that is what he is, a sockpuppet, and SSP is for suspected sockpuppets, so I'm really not sure if anything at all should, or needs to be done. You might ask Riana, as she placed the block on two of them. ArielGold 03:24, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I understand all that. I guess my point was could checkuser be used to see what IP address they are coming from, and to then block that IP, given he's repeatedly being a vandal. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 03:29, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, I think this would qualify under "Obvious, disruptive sock puppet", or "Disruptive "throwaway" account used only for a few edits" to which the solution is to simply block, and CU isn't needed. I'm not really sure, but I don't think that they do IP/Range blocks based on sockpuppet names. You could ask Deskana who is a checkuser and Bureaucrat, though, if you'd like. Honestly I'm not really super-familiar with the sock/checkuser system yet, as I've not had much reason to dig into it too deeply. Sorry that's not of more help. Adding Israeli artists Bios

Ariel's replies are indented, and in italics

I have been living in Israel during the last year and was quite throughly impressed with the burgeoning and exciting art scene both in TA and Jeru.

Upon looking up the Israeli artists/painters bios in Wiki I found it quite lacking and decided on a whim to add the bios of several artists I had been exposed too here(though the favor was not so well appreciated as they have little faith in new media I have their email promises to upload and keep at least the commons section due to copyright issues). I have been studying wiki's editing language and have written one article as of now to see how it goes.

I take it that u are on some sort of editorial level in Wiki and so I would like to put forth some questions:

1. What sort of referencing or links are required to make an article more sound and acceptable as bias free.

The Core policies of Wikipedia must be upheld, chiefly with regards to verifiability and neutrality. Additionally, all statements should be cited with reliable, third party sources. Most especially if related to biographies of living persons, these issues must be taken with special care and attention.

2. If you are an Israeli, is there an accepted policy on cross language articles (HEB and ENG) and could you be so kind as to direct me to it as I have failed in locating it.

I am not, I am simply a girl who happens to have a semi-common Israli name. However, as this is the English Wikipedia, articles need to be written in English, but can be then translated by someone familiar with language onto the appropriate language site, such as הקוסם מארץ עוץ

3. What is the best way (copyright wise) to upload media onto Wiki.

Please review Wikipedia help for images, as well as the copyright policy for information regarding uploading, copyright, and proper sourcing of any media uploaded.

4. The list of articles that reference international artists seems to be quite jumbled, is there a list or does one have to go through the list of links?

The only list I know of that would directly apply to your areas of interest would be List_of_Israeli_Artists, which is organized alphabetically, and the blue links are existing articles, while red links are those not yet created.

Will appreciate a speedy reply as I still have many Bios I intend to write - JSJ - User:John Sturges Jr 06:57 September 10, 2007

I'd place I placed a {{db-attack}} the userpage: Pages that serve no purpose but to disparage their subject or some other entity (e.g., "John Q. Doe is an imbecile"). These are sometimes called "attack pages". This includes a biography of a living person that is entirely negative in tone and unsourced, where there is no neutral version in the history to revert to.. I'd be willing to put bars of latinum that he's referring to someone else, but regardless, the content is completely inappropriate. ArielGold 01:54, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi again Jeremy, I've replied on your talk page! Cheers, ArielGold 02:38, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Boo! At you.

It seems we both might have a problem with clarity :D As a side note, when you do your smiles, do you just remember the image link, or do you do something else? Because it gets annoying having to come back to your talk page every time I need one. i said 04:03, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

LMAO Well, I remember some, but I also have a page I use for my "cheatsheet", with multiple templates, links, references, etc., so I have them all there, as well. ArielGold 04:07, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
I see. As a side note, you can just reply here, or on my talk. No need to cross post, I have yours watchlisted. i said 04:14, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
I was covering my bases. Hee hee. So, how are you doing? Been a few days since I came around to bug you. Things going well? ArielGold 04:17, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah. Deskana got another talk page vandal. That was interesting. i said 04:22, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Deskana is popular!! Hee hee. He must be doing something right, eh? ArielGold 04:25, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Yep. Although he is taking an awful long time to close Flyguys RFA. i said 04:27, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, maybe he's sleeping already! No worries, someone will get to it soon, I'm sure. ArielGold 04:29, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

so why aren't you an admin?

You avoided it last time I hinted at it, so I'm asking outright. :) — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 04:10, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

LOL. Hrmm, I'm not sure why you say I avoided it. So, today and yesterday it rained almost all day here, how is the weather where you are? ArielGold 04:13, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Trust me, Timothy, we'll solve that very, very soon ;) Phaedriel - 10:15, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

I wonder if you'll ever be as popular as Deskana? i said 05:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Hee hee, I doubt it! ArielGold 05:47, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Maybe thats a good thing. i said 05:58, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
[[Image:Face-grin.svg|25px]] Hee hee. (replace "grin" with "wink" or "smile" for varieties) ArielGold 05:59, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
They're just confused about WP:WikiLove is all. ;) Flyguy649 talk contribs 06:09, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Too cute picture of the little kitten! I'm working on sleep deprivation myself, woo hoo! Insomnia is great, isn't it? ArielGold 08:40, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Ahhhhhh

Thanks for the tip (I didnt know that) ! So do I put {{subst:uw-test1|Article on the vandal's page? And change the number after test, correct? Yes I was just pasting {{test as I got it from the box on my userpage for ease. Phgao 08:56, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Oops I think I did something wrong. Help! See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:125.238.63.196 Phgao 08:58, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Fixed! And replied on your talk page. ArielGold 09:09, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I just noticed something, with this template I have to copy/paste the name of article that was vandalised into the article spot correct? Phgao 09:11, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Is there anyway to remove the link on "edit summary" whenever I go to edit. A lot of times, in a rush, I click on that instead of "save page". Oh and I ticked the box. Phgao 09:14, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Hahaha omg I wish there was a way to remove "minor edit" or "edit summary" link, I can't tell you the times I've clicked those instead. If you're using Firefox 2.0.0.6 though, just wait till the page loads, and hit the back button, and your edit will still be in the window. That's saved me some serious typing in the past! ArielGold 09:23, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Hello again! I've worked my way through your essay which btw is very nice and detailed. I agree that there are procedures to follow and the level of warnings are sequential etc. However, what I really what to do is to revert as much vandalism as possible in the time I'm on... so I don't really want to spend time doing that. In reference to the firefox tip you mentioned, I don't think I quite understand, so I type what I want then hit the backspace button correct? And my edit is supposed to stay in the window? I'm confused ~.~ lol. Phgao 09:28, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh yes, that's the same in IE as well, but it's damned annoying. Oh yes backspace works as well and is quicker (I like speed...), and it works in FF too. Its alright if someone else beats me to the edit, but the point is it is a waste of time, and as you've demonstrated, mine is not an isolated case. I'm asking now on the RefDesk whether adblock or some program is available to block the link. Oh and i've bookmarked your essay and added it to my links for future reference and I'll await the finished product. Phgao 09:40, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

I just realised I could remove the "article" part and just have {{subst:uw-test1, which works as well. So i'll use that on userpages from now on. Phgao 09:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Was I out of place?

User talk:The1darknight - And were the policies that I asked him to read the right ones? Any guidance on how to deal with situations like these in future would be much appreciated! I understand that I did seem a little gruff in my response. Thank you and my apologies if I have screwed up in some manner. Pat. ScarianTalk 09:06, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh, please know that I did not take the issues to his talk page because I felt you did not do a good job, I did it because it seemed he had not followed your advice, and I felt that perhaps a more thorough explanation could be helpful. I'll respond more on your talk page, dear. ArielGold 09:12, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate that. And about his valedictorian title, I didn't mean to sound sarcastic on that one... I assume, in America, it's a pretty important position :-D - But thank you for not being too darn hard on me. As you noticed, humour can save lives on Wikipedia! By the way, I'm trying to write a love letter... You wouldn't by any chance know how to write Swedish? Or know anyone whom is online who does? Any help appreciated again! Thank you! ScarianTalk 09:47, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh dear! I seemed to have cause a bit of bother. I just popped out to go to college and I get accused of spamming when I come back! hehe, thanks for "having my back". It wasn't your fault at all :-) It was mine, perhaps my enquiries were better suited for mediums other than Wikipedia. Sorry for causing you bother Ariel and thank you! No worries, here's where you can go though, to request translation: Wikipedia:Translation. Hope that helps! ArielGold 12:24, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
