Brett Detar

Brett Detar (born April 30, 1978) in Greensburg, Pennsylvania is a songwriter, musician, and record producer. He co-wrote and played guitar, bass, and piano for the metalcore band Zao on their "Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest" album in 1998 as well as the split CD with Training for Utopia. He toured the US with the band for two years. He replaced original guitarist and founding member Roy Goudy and brought seminal vocalist Dan Weyandt to the band. During the same time period, he (along with Chad Alan, Joshua Fiedler, Neil Hebrank, and Jeremiah Momper) formed The Juliana Theory. Until the band broke up in February of 2006, he was lead vocalist, co-writer, third guitarist, and keyboard player. The Juliana Theory toured the world for 9 years and recorded 4 full length albums, along with EP's and various official live recordings. Throughout their career, they were signed to Epic Records, Tooth and Nail Records, Rykodisc, and Abacus Recordings. In 2005 The Juliana Theory, along with manager Josh Karchmer, started the Paper Fist record label, putting out band's farewell album, Deadbeat Sweetheartbeat. Before Zao and The Juliana Theory, Brett's music career began by playing guitar and singing backing vocals in the band Pensive that featured Juliana Theory and Zao alumni Chad Alan, Josh "Chip" Walters, and Marty Lunn.

Before his music career, Brett worked on a farm while growing up. He also worked at Carmike Cinemas in Greensburg.
