RentCafe.com (formerly RENTCafé) is a property management software that provides services for property managers and tenants[1][2] such as leasing tools, online chat and self-guided tours. RentCafe is also a listings site[3] that focuses on multi-family properties across the US and Canada.

History

Launched in 2011 by Yardi Systems, RentCafe was conceived as an internet listings site with a focus on property management and marketing, following a B2C (business-to-customer) model.[4] It provided users with features such as online tenants application, tracking online rent payments, lease renewals and managing maintenance requests.[5]

In 2014, RentCafe started to offer users the option to make payments via Short Messaging Service (SMS) as well as review balances. The platform was the only one at the time to implement an Instagram integration feature that allowed property managers to display images from the social media platform on their website.[6]

In 2023, as a response to the White House announcement regarding hidden fees, the website implemented an update to show a fee disclosure section.[7] This included security deposits, administrative fees, pet fees, along with rent prices and other various charges. 2023 also marked the signing of an API Access Agreement between ApartmentLove and parent company Yardi Systems, with the RentCafe API interface facilitating the exchange of data,[8] the integration of an ID Verify software to facilitate the screening process[9] and the implementation of a new software product that would allow tenants to pay with housing vouchers.[10]

By 2023, RentCafe expanded its client base to include mobile platform and market network Zonetail[11] and Belgian-based real estate company Xior Student Housing.[12]

In 2024, smart home technology platform iApartments announced the integration of RentCafe as a customer relationship management system.[13]

RentCafe has also produced range of reports and studies with a focus on real estate news[14][15][16] and market insights[17][18] for over 130 cities, including a quarterly competitivity report[19] and a monthly rental activity report.[20][21]
