University soccer and youth soccer

[edit]

Little attention has been given to Canadian university soccer. I kind of understand why (all the good players go to Europe). However with 41 teams in Canada working to develop players, some credit has to be given. And it is a big job. Coppercanuck (talk) 04:12, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also useful would be mention of high school soccer and youth soccer (u3 and up). Facts707 (talk) 08:40, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of the USL

[edit]

The infobox includes Major League Soccer and the North American Soccer League as the only Canadian club competitions. Shouldn't the United Soccer League be added as another Canadian club competition? It has 3 Canadian teams and the league is technically professional. The only reason that I can think of why the USL couldn't be accepted as a Canadian club competition is that all 3 teams are the reserve teams for Canada's 3 MLS teams. I'd like to have your opinions on whether the USL should be included as a Canadian club competition in the infobox. Thanks, Jith12 (talk) 17:08, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Depends how much you want to include, and how cluttered you want to make it. USL is at the same Div 3 level as L1O and PLSQ, so it should be all three of them, or none. I personally don't have a problem with the way it is now. -Gopherbashi (talk) 18:19, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Updated Early History with Citations

[edit]

Updated the history of the Dominion of Canada Football Association, specifically the date and location of its founding.[1][2] Added citations from Colin Jose, current historian for the Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum in Vaughan, Ontario. JKellough (talk) 21:44, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

improvement

[edit]

The article looks at the various sports and how they are regulated by their governing bodies. However, the information provided here is only skeletal as it has not looked at each sport in an in-depth manner. What is just presented are general views about how the regulation of the various sports takes place. What is possible for one to see is that with this regulation, some form of sanity is brought to the given sport. Something about this article is that it has only looked at internationally acclaimed sports like soccer, basketball and formula 1. It means that other sporting disciplines are not of interest to the author or that they do not matter.

What is clear from this information is that the author does not appear to be well organized in the manner in which he has presented or organized his thoughts in the required manner. He jumps from one idea to another and there is no coherence that can be seen in how he has carried out this aspect of analyzing the various sports. It could have been better if he had chosen just one sport and did a critical analysis on how it is regulated and how various aspects affect it. In so doing, a deeper concentration on only one game could have taken place and to the satisfaction of the reader. Otherwise, they way this article is presented, one does not understand how the sports are regulated or if the regulation is meant for all sports disciplines. The role of individual players and how communities can help those sports disciplines to become internationally acclaimed is something that requires urgent filling in this article so that one is able to have a better understanding of the points that one is supposed follow.(17) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malha10 (talkcontribs) 15:00, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Malha10: There are several misconceptions in your commentary. First is that the article was created by only one author. The article has been edited my many authors. To see who, look at the article's edit history. The second is that this is about multiple sports. The article is called soccer in Canada. It is only about one sport: association football. Based on this, I don't think you clearly understand what this article is about or possibly, you didn't read this article and read another instead and commented here. Feel free to clarify. Orphaned references in Soccer in Canada

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Soccer in Canada's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "auto":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 09:21, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox image

[edit]
Soccer in Canada
CountryCanada
Governing bodyCanadian Soccer Association
National team(s)Men's team
Women's team

The old infobox image was a picture of Australian Sam Kerr running with the ball past two Canadian defenders at the Olympics. This was a very poor image choice considering the focal point was a Matilda. I propose changing it to a picture of BC Place during the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup; because this is the most important FIFA event Canada has ever hosted, and it highlights a major soccer stadium that hosts matches for both the men's and women's national teams. It is also customary to use a major soccer stadium as the infobox image. See: Football in England. Football in Brazil, Football in France, Football in Italy, Football in Portugal, Football in China, Football in Mexico, Soccer in the United States, etc.

I placed my proposal on the right. TrailBlzr (talk) 03:29, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the discussion. I'd sooner see players than a panoramic shot but I can't find much good in commons: file:Round of 16 Canada vs Switzerland (18852958960).jpg or file:Fussballspieler vor Parlament in Ottawa.JPG Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:11, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Do we mention the spying thing?

[edit]

It seems pretty official, and to have impacted tyre men's and women's national teams for a long long time. The official Canadian body has confirmed it (see below, from the Canada Soccer drone spying scandal page) means every game they've played is now questionable.

"Canada Soccer and the COC confirmed on 26 July that there had been a history of spying within their teams, and that they would have an independent external review" Moubliezpas (talk) 10:09, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly deserves a mention on the Canadian Soccer Association article. BLAIXX 14:41, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's an article about it at Canada Soccer drone spying scandal. Just refer to that, no need to duplicate efforts. PKT(alk) 15:01, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
