Micah Hoffpauir

James Micah Hoffpauir (born March 1, 1980 in Fort Worth, Texas) is a Minor League first baseman for the Iowa Cubs, the AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 2000 amateur entry draft in the 44th round (1301st overall), but he did not sign and returned to college. The Cubs drafted him in the 13th round (393rd overall) of the 2002 amateur entry draft.


Biography

A six-foot three-inch true left-hander, Hoffpauir attended Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Texas. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where he holds a school record in nearly ever major offensive category. He graduated in the year 2001.


Career

After being drafted by the Cubs, Hoffpauir was sent to the A Boise Hawks, where he batted .301 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI. His good play caused the Cubs to send him to their other A team, the Daytona Cubs, in the year 2003. Here he batted only .254 with 8 home runs and 58 RBI. In 2004, Hoffpauir made the leap from A Daytona to AAA Iowa, where he played in only one game before being sent down to the AA Tennessee Smokies. He hit 11 home runs and drove in 75 runs in 94 games with the Smokies. In 2004, Hoffpauir began the season with AAA Iowa, where hit a mere 3 home runs and drove in 47 games in 119 games, and held only a .268 average. His poor performance sent him back down to AA West Tenn for the remainder of the season.
