What I've been up to lately

I am back from a "40-day period" of self-imposed exile during which I reflected on my role at Wikipedia. I have decided to stay, of course. I think Wikipedia will always be part of my life. Uncle Ed 16:58 10 Jun 2003 (UTC)

and 40 nights? :) Welcome back. Martin

user:My Green Dice is also Michael-- Green Dice, with spaces, not MyRedDice, without. Anyway, he's moving Hephaestos' page to different places; could you block him please? Thanks. Koyaanis Qatsi 01:54 8 Jun 2003 (UTC)

kq, I'd like to stop being a gatekeeper. Please contact Eloquence or another developer. Uncle Ed 16:40 10 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Not a problem. Koyaanis Qatsi 17:15 10 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Welcome back

Welcome back, Uncle Ed! Honestly, I've missed your twisted sense of humor :-). If you got some free time, maybe you can reorganize the Unification Church stuff. The main article is currently a bit messy with lots of headlines. --Eloquence 20:15 10 Jun 2003 (UTC)

I do hope you are back Ed. Your edits and especially your mediation skills have been sorely missed. :) --mav 20:58 10 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Welcome back, Ed. I missed your insights, your comments, and your sense of humour. Danny

Ed, we have an agreed convention on cardinals' names. It on Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles) and the form used is the only workable one. Everything else runs into major difficulties. They were tried and ran into hellish problems. This is the least alkward, most accurate version.

Thanks, jtd. I read the convention, and it makes sense. (Getting out of hell is bound to involve some awkwardness.) --Ed

Sent your tape today, should be there on Monday. Best, Koyaanis Qatsi 20:47 12 Jun 2003 (UTC)

If you have some time, can you look at the current version of Supply and demand and see if the changes are worthy (especially the new discrete example). Jrincayc 13:06 24 Jun 2003 (UTC)

I've noticed the term Straw man being used often by users to mean "a bad arguement", which is not the proper definition. Please see the definition listed on wikipedia of Straw man for the real meaning. Hopefully this will clear up confusion in the future. Don't feel bad, this is a common mistaken use of Straw man. I sent you an email but you're out of office. Enjoy your vacation.  :-) Koyaanis Qatsi 19:19 1 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Yes, sorry, kq. Circumstances pulled me suddenly away: it's actually a "working vacation.". I haven't even had time to view your documentary yet! Although I eagerly look forward to doing so. ^_^
Not a big deal. And try to take a non-working vacation sometime, ok?  :-) Koyaanis Qatsi 08:17 13 Jul 2003 (UTC)

So what do you think of what the evolutionists have done to the Microevolution and Creationism pages? Rednblu 08:50 22 Jul 2003 (UTC)

I have been too busy to take a detailed look, although I did make one suggestion at talk:creationism. The essence of the problem is likely the reluctance of either side to let the other side's voice be heard: evolutionists are convinced they have scientific proof that life developed without God's assistance or direction. Creationists, of course, insists as a matter of faith that God MUST HAVE created all life -- after all, the Bible says so.
The only practical solution is for the articles to come down from the high horse of "our side is clearly right" and take the more modest view of "this is what this and side believes". The Wikipedia cannot endorse any particular view. --Ed

Request for the biographical list

Dear Ed: Hi! How are you? I hope everything's in place *winks*. Well I have been blocked from some pages cause you know how it is, seems like Michael uses an ISP or wahetever thats similar to mine. Anyways I wanted to ask if you could please include Rafael Solis (boxer) on the biographical list, and note that he is Julian Solis' brother. The pharenthesis was neccesarry because there is another Rafael Solis, a very famous Mexican singer of the 1940s.

Well, thank you very much and God bless you!!

Sincerely yours, Antonio 31 year old Teen Martin

Could you ban User:67.121.169.17 (Michael) ASAP? MB 23:23, Aug 5, 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the initiative on the Björk article. I was at a point that I didn't know what to do with it. I think I'll go ahead and move the old article content to Talk:Björk/Temp so anyone who wants to incorporate the old material can still find it. I agree that the new version is much better; it is much shorter on facts, but billions of irrelevant factoids do not Brilliant Prose make. -- Wapcaplet 14:28, 12 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I shouldn't even bother with that. The old version is in the history. You can give a link to the particular version from the talk page. Nice work, Ed! -- Tarquin 14:34, 12 Aug 2003 (UTC)
You're welcome. We're all editors here, and sometimes the best thing an editor can do is gave his stamp of approval to someone else's work. I often feel that I can't write well, but I can almost always recognize good writing when I see it. --Ed
