Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by VoABot (talk | contribs) at 01:02, 15 May 2007 (BOT - Archiving 1 completed request(s).). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Add new requests to the bottom of the page.

Firefoxman → FireFoxMan

Hmm. There's a User:FireFox as you mention on your user page. There's also the bit of the Username policy that says "..Match the name or trademark of a well-known company or group (especially if the user promotes it), unless the name is generic and could reasonably refer to something else.". I believe that both of you are referring to Mozilla Firefox, the web browser and therefore if that's not allowed, neither of you should be allowed. However as there is the similarity too - I'm not going to rename you to look slightly more similar. However I don't think I'm going to ask you to rename yourself either (unless people have strong feelings). At a brief glance you don't appear to editing articles that relate to Mozilla. Secretlondon 15:24, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure if one is allowed to post comments here, but I think that "Firefoxman" is more similar to "Mozila Firefox" than "FireFoxMan". According to CamelCase, "FireFoxMan" is composed by three words, which is too different from "FirefoxMan". Rjgodoy 10:10, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Askedoffer → Stormydaniels

Clerk note: All requests must be made while logged in to the account that will be renamed; this request was made by Fjykbgv (talk · contribs). Please log in to the account that is to be renamed and confirm this request. Not entirely sure what's going on here... WjBscribe 04:38, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
User:Askedoffer has precisely no edits. Secretlondon 08:00, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cezar theScribe → Cezar The Scribe

> hit the space bar. 63.3.9.129 03:57, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: All requests must be made while logged in to the account that will be renamed; this request was made by 63.3.9.129 (talk · contribs). Please log in to the account that is to be renamed and confirm this request. WjBscribe 04:26, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedian64 → Game-uh Cube

By moving your userpages to the requested name you've just made things confusing and not actually changed your username. User:Game-uh Cube is still in breach of the username policy as it clearly refers to Game Cube and your username must not "Match the name of a well-known company or group". Could you come up with something else? Secretlondon 01:52, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grammerbot → Grandmotherbot

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. WjBscribe 14:10, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

grammarpolicebot or Grandmotherbot —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Grammerbot (talkcontribs).

OK, well "policebot" sounds a bit official so "Grandmotherbot"? I'll add the template below. WjBscribe 17:29, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What is this bot for? We are not approving a bot for the auto correction of English grammar, as I said before. We don't even approve bots for the auto correction of English spelling. Secretlondon 02:35, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aflusche → Andrew Flusche

I'm concerned about self promotion as your only edits to the encyclopedia have been in that area. Secretlondon 23:52, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
also adding some linkspam. DGG 00:23, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Luctor IV → Luctor

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. --NickContact/Contribs 14:22, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ronald20 → Ronald Molina

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use.

The account has not made any contributions and has no log entries, however it was created very recently. In 6 months if the account still has not made any contributions, you may request usurpation of the username. --NickContact/Contribs 18:15, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was made today actually. Did you make it? Secretlondon 19:57, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you did make it - can you log in as it and post here? Secretlondon 21:17, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BergerKing → KingB

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. --NickContact/Contribs 18:10, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

L.C.Porrello → LCP

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. WjBscribe 22:43, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jeaninehubert → Hubert86

If I rename you to this I won't rename you to anything else as you are messing us around. You've come up with a variety of random reasons for your name change and your behaviour seems really juvenile. Please do not edit the archives, thanks. Secretlondon 02:40, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MoLo → apn

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. I believe all accounts must start with a capital letter- you would have to be renamed to "Apn" not "apn" and that account already exists. WjBscribe 01:45, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
On a side note, usernames cannot be all lowercase. The software will automatically capitalize the first letter of usernames. --NickContact/Contribs 05:15, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Soraia.ahmadyar@gmail.com → Suriekiz

Clerk note: All requests must be made while logged in to the account that will be renamed; this request was made by 198.151.13.15 (talk · contribs). Please log in to the account that is to be renamed and confirm this request. WjBscribe 18:07, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erkanumut → Erkan Umut

Clerk note: This unsigned request was added by the account requesting the rename [1]. WjBscribe 02:20, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your edits all are all about yourself and your userpage is an 'article'. I am not going to rename you so that your userpage looks more like the Erkan Umut page that was deleted. Secretlondon 04:14, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Svsvtkag → Petramis

They've been indef. blocked as a sockpuppet of User:Wptfe despite having no obvious vandalism in their contributions. I've asked for clarification from the admins concerned. Secretlondon 10:22, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Banned from this. I can't rename, whether they should be unblocked is a different issue. Secretlondon 19:26, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done Secretlondon 19:26, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ErleGrey → Polyethylene

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. --NickContact/Contribs 04:16, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JimbQ → AcePocoyo

JimbQ 16:21, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Someone told you to change your name as it looked like User:Jimbo. They also asked an administrator to look at it but it was rejected. You don't have to change your name unless you want to. I don't see anything wrong with it either. Secretlondon 17:25, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, there's nothing wrong with this username if you would like to keep it... WjBscribe 17:30, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ZoeyGrey → DisneyDreamer

I'd be happier if it didn't have Disney in. Could you come up with something without someone else's name in? Secretlondon 16:51, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commiessuck → Reaganrules

Clerk note: The above unsigned request was added by the account requesting the rename [2]. I have fixed the template. WjBscribe 18:01, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Still a breach of Wikipedia:Username_policy. "Offensive usernames that may make harmonious editing difficult or impossible, including but not limited to.. Usernames that promote a controversial or potentially inflammatory point of view." Choosing a politically neutral name is in your interests. Secretlondon 15:03, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shane hudson → Shane

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. WjBscribe 17:58, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rocket omen → RocketOmen

You need to sign in as the account to be renamed. Secretlondon 18:37, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prepmasters → PrepM11

Not done as your only contributions seem to be spamming your company. If you start contributing positively we'll rename you. Secretlondon 19:26, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kaeye → Kai

It already exists as an account but has no edits. It meets the crieteria for usurption but your account is currently too new. Secretlondon 14:48, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And that effects the usurption process how? -- kai talk 06:52, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We only allow you to usurp a username if you are an "established contributor". See Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations Secretlondon 18:16, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WBHoenig → Digitize

That user name has already been taken but meets the criteria for usurption. Secretlondon 15:07, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not done user applied for usurption. Secretlondon 17:29, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Physicq210 → Kurykh

 Done Secretlondon 03:09, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vartanm → VartanM

 Done Secretlondon 04:12, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

J_baillie_strong → Ivorytinkler

 Done Secretlondon 00:48, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Qz3 → Algonquin

Clerk note: Unfortunately you're not the first to think so. The username is already taken - please choose a different name. Have a look at Special:listusers - any name not in that list is available. WjBscribe 13:52, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Monsieurdedalus → Charles Talbut Onions

Done I've allowed this as Charles Talbut Onions is long dead and therefore there is little risk of impersonation. Secretlondon 00:54, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wellsoberlin → SixWingedSeraph

Iain_david_stewart → Iain_David_Stewart
