Cecilia

Evangelina Sobredo Galanes, known as Cecilia, (Madrid, October 111948 - Benavente, August 2 1976) was a Spanish singer-songwriter. Her name came from a song by Simon and Garfunkel.

Daughter of diplomats, she spent her childhood in several countries and was raised by an American nun. She got a bachelor degree in Laws in Spain and she decided to dedicate herself to music and composition. Her ironic and lyrical songs sung by her tiny voice can be included in the existentialist and feminist movements of Spanish canción protesta (protest songs) in the 1960's & 1970's.

She represented Spain in OTI festival in 1975 with the song "Amor de medianoche". She died in a road accident in 1976, her corps is the Madrilenian Cementerio de la Almudena. She was working in several artistic projects like a tribute to Ramón del Valle-Inclán. There have been various posthume compilations and a re-edition of her songs sung by famous singers like Merche Corisco, Miguel Bosé, Ana Belén, Manolo Tena and Julio Iglesias in 1996.
