The Eurovision Song Contest 2008 is the 53rd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, which will be hosted by Serbia, with the semi-final being held on 22 May 2008 and the final on 24 May most likely in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, in the Belgrade Arena,[1][2][3] which is among the largest indoor arenas in Europe, with total capacity of 20,000 seats. Serbia gained the rights to host the contest after Marija Šerifović's 2007 victory in Helsinki, Finland. The responsible broadcaster will be Radio Television of Serbia.

In 2008, there could possibly be more than 50 countries in the Eurovision Song Contest, smashing the 2007 record where 42 countries participated.

Svante Stockselius, head of the European Broadcasting Union has announced that the competition semi-final format may change for the 2009 Eurovision to two semi-finals, but will stay the same for the 2008 Contest.[7]

In 2008, it has already been rumoured that Andorra may withdraw due to the way the voting went in 2007.[4] Also in January 2007, Peter Kavecky, PR manager of STV, said that Slovakia will rejoin the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008.[8]

Cosmetics supplier Wella will become Official Partner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008.[9]
