"Get the Party Started" is a 2001 hit single for Pink, taken from her second album M!ssundaztood. P1nk broke through in the music industry with this song. Her previous album was a small succes but with Get The Party Started and the album she achieved international big succes. The song became an international hit and got in the top 10 in many countries. The song is often considered to be one of her signature songs.


Writing

The song was writen by former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman Linda Perry. According to her (during an interview with VH1's Driven she wrote the song years before she introduced it to P!nk. She claimed that: "....I felt that it was a big hit but it didn't suit me. P!nk was the right person for the song". Perry guided P!nk through the album because P!nk had totally control of her creative role in her music.

Release

In early 2002 Pink teamed up with Bally Total Fitness to promote Bally Total Fitness memberships. The title of the advertising campaign was "Get This Body Started". In early 2002 there were several Bally Total Fitness commercials in the United States that used the Pink song. "Get the Party Started" was covered by Stretch Arm Strong for the Punk Goes Pop compilation album.

The track was also used extensively by the NBA during the 2002-2003 season. For the Finals, ABC used the song as the introduction music in 2003. In 2004 P!nk teamed up with Redman for a remake of Get The Party Started. The song was remix with Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) from Eurythmics. The song was released only in France where it reached #4 and it was certificated Gold. In P!nk's 2006/2007 I'm Not Dead Tour she preforms the remix. Only this time without Redman but with the song of Annie Lennox.

In 2006 Shirley Bassey covered the song for a Marks & Spencer Christmas television advertisement.[1] The track will now be included on Dame Bassey's forthcoming album - also entitled "Get The Party Started".

The song was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2003 in the category Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. But didn't won and lost it to Norah Jones. It also won and award during the Kids' Choice Awards of 2002 for favourite song. And during the MTV Europe Music Awards of 2002 it won the award for Best Song.

The video was shot by Dave Meyers in LA. In the video P!nk is coming out the shouwer and is making herself ready to go out. She changes in different outfits. One of her friends picks her up to go out. Then they drive in a car headbanging on the music. The car stops because it has no viual anymore. They get of the car and steel two skateboards from two boys. But P!nk crashes because a few guys in a car are wisteling to her. The girls arrive at the club but are refused by the bodyguard. To get in they use a glasswasher machine to get to the top of the building. When the are in P!nk changes her clotches and the start to party. At the end P!nk does a dance with two other dancers. She takes of her earings and neckless and gives it to a person In the video one of the dancer is Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline. He is a dancer in a blue trainingsuit.

Its music video was nominated at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards for "Best Pop Video" and won the awards for "Best Female Video" and "Best Dance Video".

Chart performance

It reached number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It's Pink's biggest hit in USA, as a solo artist, tieing with Most Girls. It ended number two in the UK, where it was narrowly denied the top spot by the posthumous release of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord". It peaked at #2 in 5 different countries and #1 in Australia and New Zealand. It also hit #1 on the United World Chart.

It recieved a Gold certification in Australia, Austria, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. In Norway it got a Platinum record. The remix of Get The Party Started ft. Redman was certificated Gold in France
