Mismagius (ムウマージ, Mūmāji, Mumage in original Japanese language versions) is one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Mismagius in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
The name Mismagius is a portmanteau of the words mischievous, indicating relation to its previous form, and mage or magic. Its Japanese name is a portmanteau of the Japanese word for nightmare (夢魔, muma) and the English word mage.
Biological characteristics
Mismagius has the general appearance of a stereotypical witch. It has a pointed head, which is similar to that of a witch's hat, and a long crooked-like face. It has red jewels around its neck, similar to its pre-evolved form Misdreavus.
It screeches sound like incantations. Those who stray too near to it are said to get headaches upon hearing these "incantations". This is not always the case, however, some of these incantations can spell good luck for other people, depending on Mismagius' mood.
In the video games
Mismagius is one of many new Pokémon to have made its first appearance in the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS, and is exclusive to Pearl.
Misdreavus evolves into Mismagius with the use of a Dusk Stone. Mismagius' type is same as Misdreavus, Ghost, which gives it an advantage against Fighting and Normal type attacks, and the Levitate ability, which makes it immune to Ground type attacks as well. However, it is vulnerable to Dark and Ghost attacks.
After evolving from Misdreavus, Mismagius gains a major boost in Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed. It's Attack and Defense have only raised a little, though.
Before evolving Misdreavus into a Mismagius, it may be a wise choice to make sure Misdreavus has learned all the natural moves you want it to learn, as Mismagius can't learn any normal moves except through TMs.
The fifth Sinnoh Gym Leader, Fantina uses a Level 36 Mismagius, making it her strongest Pokémon.
