Regigigas (レジギガス, Rejigigasu) is one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise — a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Regigigas is one of the legendary Pokémon that premiers in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Regigigas in the games, anime, movies, and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]

Regigigas’s name comes from regis, the Latin word for royal or king, and gigas, a Greek word for giant. Thus, Regigigas’s name means “Royal Giant”, “Giant King” or “King of Giants”. Thusly, Regigigas is often fittingly considered the "leader" of the three Regis (Regirock, Regice and Registeel), and it will only appear if the three are gathered.

Biological characteristics

Regigigas is a tall humanoid golem. Regigigas is an ancient Pokémon, possibly being even older than the other "Regis". Its main body color is white. It has yellow plates on its shoulders, arms, and its facial area. Instead of a face, Regigigas has a Braille-like pattern black dots running down the middle of its facial plate; seven, just like Regice, Regirock, and Registeel. On both of Regigigas' rib areas are six multicolored dots that stand for the other "Regis": red for Regirock, blue for Regice, and grey for Registeel. It also has several black markings all around its body, though mainly on its arms and legs. On the areas between its shoulder plates and on its feet grows a large amount of moss, as it was left immobile in the Snowpoint Temple for ages, resulting in the belief that it was a mere statue of the actual Pokémon. It shares a similar name and body structure with Regirock, Regice and Registeel. The main difference is that Regigigas is not based on an element, instead being a Normal-type. A Sinnoh legend states that Regigigas' power is so immense, that it could move a full continent by pulling it with a rope.

In the video games

Regigigas is the first Normal-type legendary Pokemon ever. It is one of the legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, in which it acts as the leader of the Regi trio. It can only be battled if the player has brought Regirock, Regice, and Registeel to the Snowpoint Temple.

If all three of the other "Regis" are on a players team, Regigigas awakens and attacks the player. It is at level 70, similar to Giratina.

As with the other three "Regi" Pokémon, Regigigas is weak to Fighting-type attacks. It is also immune to Ghost-type attacks because of its Normal-type. On the other hand, its ability, "Slow Start" halves its Attack and Speed for the first five turns of a battle, and cripples its abilities in high stakes matches.
