Saw IV is an upcoming horror, crime, and thriller film[1] to be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman,[2] who directed Saw II and Saw III, and is the fourth installment of the popular Saw series. It will be released in theaters on October 26, 2007. James Wan and Leigh Whannell are returning as executive producers.[3]
Production
Production offices opened on February 12th to begin the pre-production period. The filming of Saw IV began on April 16, 2007[4] for 6 weeks.[5] The filming location for the horror film is Toronto, Canada,[6] the same place both Saw II[7] and Saw III[8] were filmed. Post-production period began on May 19th.[9] Saw IV was given the greenlight before the third movie even opened. This was stated in Fangoria Magazine #257: "The synopsis, bare as it is, takes the third installment to a new budget level for Lionsgate's wildly successful franchise." Saw was made for approximately $1 million, Saw II cost $4 million and the figure for Saw III, according to producer Mark Burg , has risen to $10 million. Says the producer: "Saw III was greenlighted the morning after Saw II opened to massive box-office returns, and what they also did was greenlight Saw IV." Shooting for the film ended on May 30, 2007.[10]
Plot
According to a rumor site, the series creator/producer, Leigh Whannell, has once said that many unanswered questions from Saw III will be answered, such as the tape Jigsaw poured wax over, Obi's connection to Jigsaw, among other things. Another statement made says that not only will Lyriq Bent return for the fourth movie, the plot will center on his character.[11]
Darren Lynn Bousman has also given hints of the story in Saw IV via his blog on FearNet in a form of a double entendre. There, he also stated that his dog Chance would make a cameo in the movie.[12]
In addition, Darren Lynn Bousman has stated that Saw IV will involve a scene with rats[13] and that when he showed some concept art to James Wan, Wan was reportedly disgusted.[14]

It has been stated that 90% of the entire crew are from the last movie.[22]
