The Proud Family is an American animated television series geared towards pre-teens and teenagers.
Premise
While basically a sitcom, The Proud Family presents young audiences with different daily situations that many teenagers might have to face during their teenage and adult years. Most plots revolve around the main character, Penny Proud.
Production
The Proud Family was created by Bruce W. Smith and was produced by his studio, Jambalaya Studios. Originally piloted for Nickelodeon [1], it was eventually picked up by the Disney Channel in 2001. It was first broadcast in the United States on The Disney Channel on September 15, 2001, and now also airs on Toon Disney. It has also been broadcast on The Family Channel in Canada.
- Many of the later episodes of The Proud Family were produced using Macromedia Flash.
- The theme song is performed by Destiny's Child and Solange Knowles.
- LaCienega and Sunset Boulavardez are puns for La Cienega Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard, actual streets in Los Angeles and the school that Penny Proud and her friends go to is named for auto racing driver Willy T. Ribbs, who was the first African American to qualify for the Indianapolis 500.

Major characters
Voiced by Kyla Pratt. She is the 14 year old main character. She is usually embarrassed by the way her parents act. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, even though they have gotten her into trouble many times. She listens to and respects her parents, but often caves into peer pressure.
- Oscar Proud
Voiced by Tommy Davidson. Penny's overprotective father, Oscar is a born loser. He is the owner of Proud Snacks, which makes people sick when they're eaten, even if they taste good.
- Trudy Proud
Voiced by Paula Jai Parker. Trudy is Penny's ambitious, loving, and respectful mother, who often teaches morals to Penny. She works as a veterinarian. She is of African-American descent as well as her family,no questions. One episode showed that her parents were both black but darker in skin color.
- Suga Mama Proud
Voiced by Jo Marie Payton. Suga Mama is Penny's wrestling-loving, hip grandma who enjoys Tae-bo. She is the owner of Puff.
- BeBe and CeCe Proud and Puff the Dog
Voiced by Tara Strong. BeBe and CeCe are Penny's younger twin siblings. They are three years old and love making mischief. Puff is Sugar Mama's pet poodle, who is frequently tortured by BeBe and CeCe.
- Dijonay Jones
Voiced by Karen Malina White. Dijonay is Penny's plump and somewhat eccentric best friend. She is in love with Sticky Webb.
- Sticky Webb
Voiced by Orlando Brown. Sticky is Penny's friend and Dijonay's love interest, though he loves her and can't help himself.
- Zoey Howzer
Voiced by Soleil Moon Frye. She is Penny's nerdy friend.
- LaCienega Boulevardez
Voiced by Alisa Reyes. Penny's on-and-off-again friend.
