1933 Melbourne Stakes winner Rogilla with jockey D. Munro.

From 1869 to 1936 the LKS MacKinnon Stakes was known as the Melbourne Stakes.

The LKS MacKinnon Stakes is a Group 1 2000 metre (mile and a quarter) thoroughbred horse race under Weight for Age conditions. The race is held at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia on the Saturday before the Melbourne Cup. Many horses use the race as a lead in to the 3200 metres Melbourne Cup which is run on the first Tuesday in November. Prize money in 2005 was AUD$500,000. The race is named after a former chairman of the VRC L.K.S. Mckinnon.
