Kimbo Slice
Template:MMAstatsbox Kimbo Slice real name Kevin Ferguson (born c. 1974) is a Miami, Florida-based underground fighter. He has appeared in several bare-knuckle fights which have spread primarily on the Internet. Kimbo is the cousin of 2004 Olympic Judo contender Rhadi Ferguson.[citation needed]
Biography
Slice has worked as a bodyguard for the pornographic VIP Frank P.(Christina Walshs' daddy) and MILF Hunter productions. [1] Rolling Stone has stated his age at 31 (in 2007) and called Slice "The King of the Web Brawlers". [1]. However, CFFC 5 listed his age as 33 (in 2007). The age given at CFFC 5 is most likely accurate. His current bare-knuckle fighting record is 7-1. Ferguson was a star defensive player for Miami Palmetto High School in the Pinecrest area of Miami, Florida. Although he was a highly sought after recruit from big name colleges, Ferguson decided he didn't want to attend college. He had a short stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad before being cut due to an altercation with all pro defensive tackle Warren Sapp.[citation needed].
Career
One of Slice's most notable fights was a September 2003 encounter with Sean Gannon, a Boston police officer who trains in mixed martial arts (MMA).[2] Slice was defeated by Gannon, but Slice's team argued during filming that Gannon cheated by using a guillotine choke as well as at least 2 knee strikes, MMA moves they considered outside of the rules of a typical bareknuckle stand-up fight. However after Gannon's illegal moves, Kimbo is seen striking Gannon several times while he was on the ground and attempting single-leg take downs. Due to the popularity of the video, the Ultimate Fighting Championship signed Gannon, who lost in his debut at UFC 55 on October 7, 2005 to Branden Lee Hinkle by a technical knockout due to strikes. Gannon is 1-1 in Mixed Martial Arts contests.
Slice made his sanctioned MMA debut against former world champion boxer Ray Mercer at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 5, held in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 23, 2007. A video of Slice signing for the fight can be seen on the Cage Fury official website. Kimbo is trained with MMA legend Bas Rutten. Slice talked about his debut in an interview with [1] touchgloves.com. The match was a three-round exhibition utilizing all professional rules of mixed martial arts combat.[3]
In the early hours of June 24, 2007 Kimbo defeated former WBO heavyweight champion Ray Mercer in his MMA debut with a guillotine choke.
Slice will be featured on The Iron Ring, a new television series airing on BET which features mixed martial arts prospects. Slice will be a part of the selection process for the participants.[4]
