Toolserver

hi. you asked for an account on m:Toolserver. if you're still interested, please give me an SSH key (either on my talk page or by email to keturner [at] livejournal.com). thanks, kate. (ps: i notice your map resource appears to be running on MediaWiki. the current policy is that users should not have their own installations of large PHP applications for security reasons. if this is likely to be a problem, please let me know and we can probably work something out.)

Map project

Hi Egil,

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you will be back in the future. Currently i'm working on the state leaders per year project. Maybe some of the people from there want to work on the map project to make historical maps.--Daanschr 09:20, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings

Hi, could you please make a habit of signing warnings on anon talk pages so that further admins adding warnings/considering blocking can know when/what happened at a glance. Thanks. - RoyBoy 800 00:34, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You have been nominated

Hello. I've reviewed your contributions to Wikipedia, your edit history, community involvement, bot maintenance, promotion of images to feature status, and cannot understand why, until just minutes ago, Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Egil did not exist. It does now, so go do something about it.  :-) Hall Monitor 20:12, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kind words. I've now accepted the nomination, and added the article here — hope that is the right way to do it. -- Egil 08:24, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Think nothing of it. Congratulations in advance, it is only a matter of time. Hall Monitor 21:06, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

After reading the article, I agree. Kapskarmo is only a local politician, and unless they are mayors or something, they fail WP:BIO. I will support the article's deletion if you nominate it. Regarding the categorization, I just recategorized it because I had first sorted Terje Søviknes under "T" rather than "S", realized that, then made a skim through the category to find others who had been listed by first name rather than surname. Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:46, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see you have already nominated that one once, tell you what, I will nominate it. Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:49, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have listed it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stig Olai Kapskarmo (2nd nomination). He does appear to be on the council, this list places him in last place. Sjakkalle (Check!) 15:02, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations!

I'm pleased to inform you that you are now an administrator. Please consider reading all the material on the administrators' reading list before testing out your new privileges. Redirect

Hi Egil, even if pseuoscientific approaches well exist in historical metrology, this was not the case with the content of Historical measures as seen by pseudoscience article you created once. I redirected to Pseudoscientific metrology. Perhaps since, you saw that me like you, I'm foe of all pseudoscience.

Perhaps you also saw my recent edits in Geographic coordinate system* and Cubit. Thus, I hope you can accept the this redirect. This content had been treated as pseudo all-too long.

Have a good day, -- Paul Martin 17:47, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I verified, this was my SP Match. No sad.

"Centre" vz. "Village"

A "Villages in Norway" category has popped up by itself. Which accentuates the question about the right term for the Norwegian tettsted. My vote is pretty clearly for village. Webster has for village: "a settlement usually larger than a hamlet and smaller than a town". Which is what we are looking for, exactly. Note that village in English is not an exact synonym for landsby in Norwegian. -- Egil 10:14, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Moreover, Category:Villages in Norway belongs to the subcategory Category:Villages, whereas Category:Centers in Norway does not really belong to any category. Can we just be bold and move all articles in Category:Centers to Category:Villages? In addition, of course, to other, misplaced articles in Category:Cities in Norway and Category:Towns in Norway such as Koppang. By the way, I think we should keep the distinction between city and town. Punkmorten 19:12, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

umm, why did u put the disambiguation is spanish?--Ewok Slayer 02:59, 24 November 2005 (UTC)my bad[reply]

I did a total rewrite of List of cities in Norway and coordinated the categories accordingly. Everything should be in order now, except that Category:Centers in Norway still exists. What to do? Punkmorten 23:19, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Utterly useless article

Hi! Could you consider speedy deleting Kjelsås j91? Punkmorten 17:04, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, as far as I can see it does not fulfill Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion. It is about a real team, and not patent nonsense. I'm pretty sure the team seems to be not notable enough for Wikipedia, so I'm making it a candidate for ordinary deletion. -- Egil 15:02, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, well. It will go anyway. Punkmorten 16:17, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Landscapes" of Norway » (Traditional) Districts of Norway

Hello Egil. About the awkward rendering of landskap into the cognate "landscape". I have inserted a short section on all counties that list these smaller zones of local identity, folklore and dialect. I have called these districts and changed from landscapes where appropriate. BUT, I still feel that traditional district would be optimal, since district alone sounds like something that has to do with health care or voting or mail service. //Big Adamsky 07:22, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have no strong feelings here, traditional district is OK too (historical would be wrong, since they still exist). In addition to districts being unified in a cultural and geographical sense, in many cases the distrcts have administrative meaning too, since it is often the case that municipalities will organize common entities for utilities, health care, education etc that covers a traditonal district. But there is no formal requirement to do so. -- Egil 08:40, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I've noticed that you've made some large contributions to the article Parallel computing. There is presently a discussion on restructuring various articles on concurrency and parallel computing taking place at Talk:Concurrent programming language#On the proposed merge, and I thought you might want to make your views known.

There is also some talk of starting a Concurrency Wikiproject to coordinate efforts on taming the structure and content of the diverse articles on concurrency and parallel computing. Would you be interested in contributing to this effort?

Stop immediately!

You are deleting many of the images by one of Wikipedias best and most recognized photographers, Uwe Kils- He has clearly marked the images as gfdl self, although he does not use the tag. -- Egil 07:13, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't deleted a single image. OrphanBot's removed a number of them from articles, though. --Carnildo 07:23, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've just checked OrphanBot's log. Unless Uwe Kils is uploading under some other username, it's removed exactly one image from four articles. --Carnildo 07:29, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your robot (hopefully) acts by the exact instructions you gave it, it does not have a will of its own, it is doing what you want. You cannot blame your robot. -- Egil 07:44, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and the exact instructions were to "orphan all images in Category:Images with unknown copyright status and all subcategories that have been tagged for more than five days, or if tagged without a date, were uploaded more than five days ago. For all images, notify the uploader if there is no evidence of a notification already, and OrphanBot has not notified them about an image recently. For all images acted upon, save a local copy of the image in case deleting the image turns out to have been a mistake." OrphanBot is performing exactly as specified. If you feel that blame is needed, blame User:Admrboltz, who tagged the image as "no license". --Carnildo 08:21, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

extending to a week

It's fine if you've extended it, but the reason I chose such a small time is because it's a school IP, so most likely, the person vandalising will move on in at least 1-3 hours and any new people will end up suffering. Blocking for a week is fine for a private IP address, but public ones affect many people, so i tend not to go beyong 24 hours for them. Still, I trust your judgement and will not change the block you imposed. -- PRueda29 / Ptalk29 / Pcontribs29 14:36, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed that it is collective punishment, but for this particular school there has been nothing but massive vandalism the last couple of months, and at some point the school must take responsibility for the actions of their pupils. They can always ask for unblocking. -- Egil 15:35, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

security-copy of Kvaleberg

Your mapsources-Wiki is very important for the Wikipedia. Since I know that the Toolserver will not the right place for the wiki, i think about a possibility to increment the dependability and safeness of it. Can you send me the Wiki-folder and a Database-dump? So I would make a copy on my server http://www.alder-digital.de

So it would be also possible to share the traffic (I have 50 GB per month free) but thats not my priority intension. de:Benutzer:kolossos

Hi! I'm about to do MAJOR work on List of villages in Norway and former municipalities of Norway. How are the copyright rules for Google Maps? Are screenshots from this service allowed/free to use? Punkmorten 07:26, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Afraid not. Google maps terms and conditions says: For individual users, Google Local, including local search results, maps, and photographic imagery, is made available for your personal, non-commercial use only. Etc.
What are you interested in? There are some satelite photos and even maps what are available, but generally not very much, because Norway (as does the rest of Europe) issues public map data on commercial terms only. -- Egil 12:42, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ptolemy spellings

Hi there. I am currently tidying up the Ptolemaic links in Wikipedia, prior to doing a disambiguation page for this term (it currently redirects to Ptolemaic dynasty, when many of the Ptolemaic links refer to Ptolemy). I am also tidying up the Ptolomaic links (a mis-spelling of Ptolemaic that is redirected to the correct spelling). I noticed that User:Egil/Sandbox/rktect is linked to Ptolomaic. I guess it doesn't matter that much, and the content has changed drastically since you wrote the account about rktect, and it is effectively an archive, but I thought I'd drop a note here to let you know. Shock wave

Hallo Egil. I rolled back your change in Shock wave. The problem was that your edit changed the meaning of the sentence. If you'd like to change the style again, please keep in mind that there are several different ways to compress gas flowing supersonically, of which waveless isentropic compression, Prandtl-Meyer compression, and shock waves are three. AKAF 08:07, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. In that case, I would claim that the current wording could be misunderstood, i.e. that the or means that shock wave is another word for the other two. -- Egil 09:47, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem. In fact I agree, and hopefully the description can be whipped into shape. I've tried a bit of an extension too.AKAF 12:11, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help please

Hi! Can you do something about 72.229.186.113 (talk · contribs). The modifications he's making clearly show that he's an anonymous sockpuppet vandal that has been here last night and before. I warned him but he inores me. He keeps reverting and vandalising today, using this new IP. --Realek 16:22, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When you make claims about someone being a sockpuppet or acting against 3RR (as you do here), you must provide some evidence. Otherwise you should refrain from making such claims. Throwing about acusations will only further a conflict. Since this users edit had clear elements of vandalism, and he has been warned, I have given him a temporary block. -- Egil 16:39, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Population

Hi! I got in touch with you a few months ago about an IP editor changing population figures for Norwegian towns - well, he's at it again, see here. Even if the figures are correct, no source or methodology for the figures are given, and he's not changing the accompanying date (i.e. as of 200x the popn. was... ). I'm not an expert on the topic so I wonder if you could investigate. This is a particularly troublesome IP for edits to UK geography articles, so it might be worth keeping an eye on. Aquilina 17:55, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seems not well founded, so I have reverted them all. Thanks for the info. Other edits from the same IP seem legitimate enough. Strange. -- Egil 12:10, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sturve Geodetic Arc

Greetings, Egil. I have been doing some research to expand the article of the Hogland island in the Finnish Gulf. In that conjunction I came across the Struve Geodetic Arc, which has one (or two?) points on the island. However, in the article on SGA the points in Russia are a little strangely marked, and I tracked back the original edition to you. It says:

Russia

   * "Mäki-päälys" (Mäkipällys) in Kingisepp
   * "Hogland, Z" (Gogland, Tochka Z) in Kingisepp

Now; Mäkinpäällys is a hill on Hogland (spelled Gogland, when transscribed from cyrillic letters), but Kingisepp is a small town in Russia close to the Estonian border. (See eg. Map of Russia) If we examine the description of the arc for instance at [Struve Geodetic Arc - A tour de force in land surveying before the satellite era (National Land Survey of Finland) and open the pop-up "Struve-brochure(pdf)" (Which I didn't manage to make a link of...) we see that the arc doesnt go anywhere near Kingisepp, (Neither does it go near the town Kuressaare, that in the history has been named Kingissepp also) though there is a dotted line from Tartu (Dorpat) to some observatory near St. Petersburg, which I don't know the meaning of, that may go right over Kingissepp. But if we look at the magnification of the original, there actually seems to be two dots close to each other on the same hill. "Tochka" means "second" or "number two" in Russian, if I recall right.

My request is: Could you be so kind to check your sources in the matter? (Or give me a link, so I can do it?) rgds. -Islander(Scandinavia) 14:26, 16 August 2006 (UTC) (And sorry for as usual not being able to express myself briefly...)[reply]

It could very well be a typo. Just fix it to what the authorative sources say. The following seems to be a good resource also: http://whc.unesco.org/archive/advisory_body_evaluation/1187.pdf -- Egil 20:15, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. I've actually studied that page earlier yesterday, and though it seems to confirm my doubts, it doesn't seem reliable enough really (or interpretable enough...), but I'll fix it like that, and hope somebody comes with better knowledge. Should we copy this conversation to the discussion page of the arc? -Islander(Scandinavia) 00:45, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I found out what was the problem. Apart from being a town, Kingisepp (or actually Kingiseppsky) is also an administrative region, to which Hogland also is counted. I will slowly correct it in the different projects. (Though the ones where I don't have a signature, are very sceptic. The german one throwed it out immediately, as "Undeutsches Deutsch", and nynorsk took some convincing...) Islander(Scandinavia) 01:26, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It has been a few years since I wrote my thesis about this but we need not to forget that the SGA also used material from previous triangular measurments of the areas it passed through as well as SGA calculations for the new triangulation work later. In some documents from those measurements you can see odd bulges i.e. in the north (where they used Maupertius points and measurements) [2], that is one reson why it is deviating from the Tartu meridian. I have seen documents in the Finnish Geodetic Institute where there different measurements are on the same map. It could also be a matter of misunderstanding. kvaleberg.com wiki broken?

Holmenkollen ski jump

I saw what you did regarding the Holmenkollen and the Holmenkollen ski jump and I like what you did. I do have a problem though with what was done and that is would it not make more sense to have the ski jump as part of the Holmenkollen ski festival? My reasoning behind this is that the jump is the centerpiece of the festival though you also have to include the compeitions such as the cross country skiing, ski jumping, nordic combined, and biathlon. I am in the process of overhauling the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and was planning on returning to the Holmenkollen article to include the biathlon winners and to put in more information on the ski jump as part of the 2011 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. This article has the potential of reaching "Good Article" status, but it needs some more information to justify this. Would it make more sense to change this article's name to the Holmenkollen ski festival with the ski jump? Look at some of the winners and medalists that now have to be overhauled. You are talking legends like Thomas Wassberg, Thorleif Haug, Stefania Belmondo, Julija Tchepalova, Lauritz Bergendahl among others. Chris 12:59, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem with that - my main thing was to seperate the geographical area in Oslo called Holmenkollen from the ski arena and ski jump. I've tried to make distinctive wikilinks for Holmenkollen ski jump, Holmenkollen ski festival, Holmenkollen medal etc so they can be redirected and rearranged without having to go through lots of articles. -- Egil 14:00, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Leading Edge

I added some substance and references to the Leading Edge (company) article which you very correctly nominated for AfD due to lack of substantiated notability. I found references showing the company's role as a leading PC clone company (their sales were in the top 10 among PC companies at the peak), and some details of their eventual demise. The clones worked well (I fire up one last year which had lived unpowered in the attic for about 8 years, and after a little TLC it worked as well as new). But the price cuts in the 1990s wiped out profitability, and eventually they bit the dust. Regards. Edison 20:46, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal Universalgenius

Universalgenius (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has vandalized the France 24 page, and engaged in name-calling. Please ban. Arbiteroftruth 09:39, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do not use the term "vandalism" when not called for. Calm down. You, along with other users, are escalating a factual conflict into something silly. I suggest you take a one day wikibreak, research the facts, then come back with the proper references for your facts. -- Egil 09:58, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Egil, it appears Universalgenius IS a vandal afterall. I knew it! However, I do admit I needed to calm down. Arbiteroftruth 14:29, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

"Every page in the article namespace should belong to at least one category. Categories should be major topics that are likely to be useful to someone reading the article." Kappa Sigma is a useful category to "someone reading" all the articles I tagged.

"Questions to ask to determine whether it is appropriate to add an article to a category:"

"If the category does not already exist, is it possible to write a few paragraphs or more on the subject of the category, explaining it? " Definetly. "If you go to the article from the category, will it be obvious why the article was put in the category? Is the category subject prominently discussed in the article?" Well, being that I only tagged articles mentioning the organization, I'd say so.

Richard.longstreth 22:47, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look man, I'm not sure what your problem is, but now you're removing tags of founding fathers from the Kappa Sigma Article as well as from the Category. The copyright issue is being addressed, under review, and has one week to be corrected according to Wiki rules. I'm not going to undo your attacks against my fraternity just yet, but know that I've noticed and your behavior is unacceptable. Grow up, deal with it. Leave me and my organization alone. If you have problems regarding categories, fine, but you've over-stepped your bounds.Richard.longstreth 07:50, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete all the info from the Betar Australia page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bslistquestion (talkcontribs)

The reason is that it did not fit within the Wikipedia requirements for notability. See Wikipedia:notability to read more about it. I assume the subject is of interest to you, so I would suggest you find some other website to include this detailled information about Betar Australia. Could you help me?

Hello Egil! I'm Ipintza, from the spanish wikipedia. I work in an Aeronauthical Technologies Center in Spain, and we are looking for information abouth tests on adhesives. Your article "Adhesive" has been very usefull for us. Could you say us (here, in your discussion) where do you has obtained the information abouth tests? Authors, papers,... Thank you!

I am sorry, but I am no expert on adhesives. I did not write the article, I only did some very minor edits. I suggest you may try to ask the question on Talk:Adhesive instead. Egil 21:49, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox Kommune

Hei! I will be working on brining the list municipalities of Norway to featured status, modelling it on List of municipalities of Portugal. I need to fill in the parameters in the table, and thus I contact you as the creator of Template:Infobox Kommune: Where can I find the sources for area and population ranks? Is there a such thing as population density ranks? Punkmorten 11:27, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Again, what sources did you use? Punkmorten 21:26, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SSB Norway, e.g. http://www.ssb.no/english/municipalities/1516 -- Egil
Great, but: What about the rankings, how do we know which place a certain municipality has in the rankings? Punkmorten 14:26, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for my repeated asking, but I need to know how the rankings were compiled. Seeing as I want to bring the list municipalities of Norway to featured status, I need sources (I can't base the list data on the respective infobox of each municipality, out of caution for vandalization/random edits). Cheers, Punkmorten 21:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I won't give up... Is there a source for the rankings? Punkmorten 15:51, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The data is official data from SSB, and as far as I can remember I just picked them up and sorted them myself. That was easy enough. Egil 18:56, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Old Bishop's palace, Oslo

Hi Egil, could you by any chance add any information to this thread here [4] there seems to ne no information available anywhere on the subject. Thanks Giano 12:52, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Old Bishop's Palace, Oslo

Hi there. Following a conversation here, I was told that you might be able to help work out what this "Old Bishop's Palace" is in Oslo? My interest stems from the reference to James I of England marrying his wife (Anne of Denmark/Norway) there. But there is confusion over whether this is an earlier structure (different from the existing one), and when the current building was built. Any help (and links or pictures!) would be much appreciated. Carcharoth 12:55, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oops. Giano said it much quicker above! :-) Carcharoth 12:56, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My answer is here. -- Egil 20:05, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've replied briefly there and at more length below. Carcharoth 09:44, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, thanks for your reply over there, it really made things a lot clearer. Here is the bit I'm still puzzling over. Would you be able to explain the references to a mayor called "Christian Mule"? I found the following at this blog:

"Oslo Ladegård was built on top of the old Bishops house from 1579. The site itself, however, contains remnants of buildings going back to around 1200. The medieval buildings were abandoned in 1554, and it rapidly decayed. The mayor Christian Mule took over and built his house over the eastern wing of the medieval structure in 1579. It was in this house that King James I of England married princess Anne of Denmark in 1589. Oslo Ladegård as you see it today is built in 1725. Lately the city of Oslo has reconstructed its baroque gardens."

I'm not sure if you had the time to follow all the links at Giano's talk page, but the key one is this, which has: "On 23rd November the royal couple stood in Christen Mules Gaard, in the great hall". This seems to imply to me that they didn't marry in the Bishop's Old Palace, but rather in the later structure built by this Christian Mule on the ruins of the Old Bishop's Palace? Would the Norwegian (or indeed Danish) sources be able to shed any more light on this? Carcharoth 09:47, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

no:Christen Mule, born 1525, was mayor in Oslo on and off throughout the 16th century. This webpage says the last bishop moved out of the palace in 1554, that the palace into some state of disrepair, and that it was taken over by Mule in 1579. Mule then built new building in the eastern wing of the "fortress". So by 1589 Mules building should have been finished. Note also the Norwegian sources uses wording that almost suggests a "Bishops Fortress". The current building is from 1725, as mentioned. -- Egil 11:13, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's great, thanks. Interesting bit of history there. I wonder this all relates to the fires and the relocation of Oslo across the bay in around 1624? I also found this website which I found helpful for the history of the St Olav convent. Carcharoth 12:17, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AHA! :-) Looks good. Thanks for that. Carcharoth 18:30, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting me here. I (foolishly) mis-read the article Wikipedia has on Oslo Cathedral to mean that Hallvards was an earlier building on the same site. I now see it was at a different location. Apologies for that. Unfortunately, I created Hallvards Cathedral as a redirect to Oslo Cathedral. Um, would you possibly, ever so kindly, be able to do a stub article for Hallvards? Otherwise I should really put that redirect up for deletion. <cringe> Carcharoth 15:45, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The redirect is to the place in Wikipedia where Halvards Cathedral (sources differ 50-50 on one or two Ls) is mentioned, so IMHO it can stay as is for the time being, until someone makes a decent standalone article. Egil 16:01, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Political reasons

Thanks for clearing up the mystery of the Bishop's Palace (and the apostrophe, which varies from book to book in English). Re this edit, I feel I must ask you to provide a full reference for it, since the article is otherwise fully referenced, particularly for controversial points. By the way, I am aware of this theory, but since my modern books on the subject do not credit it, I felt it better to leave it out of the article (see my comments on the talk page). However, if you insist on its inclusion, the comment can be accommodated in the article if referenced with publication details (I can't reference it myself, as I don't have Munch, though I have historians who cite him on other points). qp10qp 21:16, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for any confusion, but I read P.A.Muchs comments, and from my experience sailing in the area, the record of the voyage really sounds like being deliberate delay. And I do seem to remember he had a good background as to why a delay would be good, based on the negotiations going on at the time. Let me see what I can find. -- Egil 21:27, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How about dropping it from the article, but putting Munch's website in the external links? Carcharoth 22:20, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A contemporary record of the events, translated to English with P.A.Munchs comments, is here: http://sites.ecosse.net/robsuth/2_History_Wedding%20OfJames&Anna.html
I hope you will forgive me for being a dreary stickler here, but the first thing to say is that the page does not pass wikipedia's guidelines for reliable sources, being an unpublished translation by a self-confessed amateur. Even so, I don't doubt the genuineness of these documents, which have already been researched by historians such as David Harris Willson and used in their accounts of the wedding.
But in any case I'd further point out that the documents, which I read the other day when Carcharoth directed me to them, in themselves give no support at all to the idea that there were political reasons for Anne's delay. That suggestion is to be found in the notes at the end by Sutherland himself, where he quotes one anonymous historian he contacted, who dismisses the opinion of all Scots historians and, it seems to me, all previous mainstream historical analysis. I do not see anywhere Munch himself voicing this argument; we must reference the theory directly to one of his publications (you could perhaps ask at a library).
And I feel there are many flaws in the idea: for example, why not delay by staying at home in the first place? And why go to Flekkerø? According to the contemporary writer Calderwood, Lord Dingwall landed at Leith and reported that "he had come in company with the Queen's fleet three hundred miles, and was separated from them by a great storm: it was feared that the Queen was was in danger upon the seas". What also strikes me is the complete lack in the Scottish sources, even from those who were with Anne, of any mention of diplomatic concerns that the Danes wished to delay the wedding.
I am not against having this theory in the article, especially because it is intriguing and I like complexity. But we must source it properly, so I will endeavour to see if I can do so myself. qp10qp 12:16, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Appearently there were several forces against this marriage, and witchcraft and a subsequent major witchhunt was involved: http://www.ub.uit.no/fag/historie/halloween.htm (Norwegian). -- Egil 08:09, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The witchcraft incident is touched on in the article, though I hope to do a full article on James and witchcraft sometime. qp10qp 12:16, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Ericsson Mobile Platforms, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Ericsson Mobile Platforms is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Ericsson Mobile Platforms, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Ericsson Mobile Platforms itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 08:32, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen your 'hangon'; I think it's reasonable that the company should have an article, and I strongly suggest you yourself delete the advertising material yourself and very soon, or another admin will probably delete it. DGG 19:42, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can GeoHack be rewritten to function with Mars locations ?

Hello! Thanks for your extension :) Very good. Could it be rewritten to work with NASA WorldWind, Google Mars, and so on ? I am not that familiar with Wikipedia extensions. Maybe the right resource URL's just have to be inserted, I don't know. I have started a Source Forge project http://spacedatawiki.sourceforge.net/ The projects direction is under review, but it will probably write any extra needed extensions for space/Mars pages. 'Greek' Measurements Mess

Hi Egil. I've been going over the article titled Ancient Greek Units of Measurement. It's plainly a mess and I say so on the discussion page there. I saw your name there. You were complaining about aspects of the page, in particular lengths. I hope you'll check out my comments on the discussion page for that article. The article appears to have been dominated by a contributor called Rktect, whose user page is a revelation. His assertions about lengths are quite lunatic and I'm thinking of deleting them. Any support for that? Lucretius 10:47, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
