KIII, channel 3, is an ABC affiliate broadcasting on analog channel 3 in Corpus Christi, Texas. It is currently owned by McKinnon Broadcasting.
History
KIII's history traces back to the 1954 sign-on of KVDO-TV, a locally-owned station broadcasting on UHF channel 22. As television manufacturers were not required to include UHF tuners in televisions prior to 1964, KVDO struggled to get viewers and shut down in 1957. On May 4, 1964, McKinnon Broadcasting put KIII-TV channel 3 on the air.
In 1969, KIII started a satellite, KXIX-TV channel 19, to bring ABC programming to Victoria, Texas. In 1976, it was sold off to local ownership (it now operates as Fox affiliate KVCT).
