Scott Beale

(John) Scott Beale (born February 12, 1976) is an American author and social-entrepreneur.

Beale was born in Athens, GA and grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. He is a leading member of the Millennial Generation, author of “Millennial Manifesto: A Youth Activist Handbook”, and the founder of an international nonprofit organization, Atlas Service Corps, Inc.

Early Life and Education

Beale graduated with a B.A. from Georgetown University in 1998 and with an MPA from the University of Delaware in 2007. As a student at Georgetown he became a nationally recognized youth activist after organizing rallies on Capitol Hill to protest federal cuts in student aid as part of the Contract with America in 1994. Later, Beale helped organize the first successful election of two students to the local government in 1995 and became active with Rock the Vote in 1996. Beale took time off from college to go to Bosnia with the U.S. State Department to organize elections in Mostar, Bosnia. He because the youngest Core Supervisor from any country for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) during the 1997 municipal elections. After graduating from Georgetown, he worked for then-Governor Thomas R. Carper of Delaware and later for President William Clinton in the White House as the Associate Director of Intergovernmental Affairs.

As a Speaker and Author

After leaving the White House in 2001, Beale researched and published a book on the politics and service of the generation after “X”, the Millennial Generation, titled, “Millennial Manifesto: A Youth Activist Handbook.” He also helped authors William Strauss and Neil Howe with their book, "Millennials Rising". He then traveled across the United States, and to India, giving presentations on how to be a youth activist. He has appeared on CBS discussing the politics of the generation and after the 2004 Election. The Youth Vote Coalition named him one of “30 people Under 30 Changing Politics in America”

As a Social Entrepreneur

While promoting youth activism, in 2001 Beale began to work for Youth Venture, a sister organization of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, to promote youth social entrepreneurship in the United States. In 2004, he left Youth Venture to go to India to work for the U.S. State Department coordinating the U.S. government’s efforts to fight human trafficking. After this experience, in 2006 Beale launched his own nonprofit organization, Atlas Service Corps, Inc. (“Atlas Corps”). Atlas Corps is an innovative fellowship program that will identify rising nonprofit leaders from the developing world to volunteer in the U.S. for one year. It has been described by some as “reversing the flow of the Peace Corps.” Atlas Corps has an impressive Board and Senior Advisory Board that includes: Senator Harris Wofford; Bill Drayton of Ashoka; and Author David Bornstein.

Scott Beale is the son of Charles Beale, a professor at the University of Delaware and Mary Anne Beale, a retired pre-school teacher. In 2006, he married to Courtney Allison Kramer Beale of St. Louis, Missouri. She is a U.S. Foreign Service Officer stationed in Bogotá, Colombia.

altvoices.org

altvoices.org is an online magazine that is written, edited, designed and published by its correspondents. These writers, artists, photographers and film makers are based across the world.

At the time of writing there are 31 correspondents in 17 different countries. The ultimate goal, says the website, is to have at least one correspondent in every country of the world.

The website was launched in December 2006 and, although there are differences, it has been compared to other alternative media websites such as alternet, Guerilla News Network and indymedia.

The website is committed to covering important global issues from humanity's perspective. The correspondents work voluntarily, all content is free to view and there is no advertising on the website.

altvoices.org's strapline - 'Global journalism in its purest form' - suggests that money is seen as an inherently insidious force in journalism. This idea is consistent with the work of David Edwards and David Cromwell of medialens.org, in particular their book 'The Guardians of Power: the myth of the liberal media.'

altvoices.org was nominated for two UK awards in Spring 2007: One World Media Trust and the New Statesman.

How To Erase Sharpie or Other Permanent Markers

Recently a friend and I set up an experiment using fingernail polish remover, paper, cotton balls, and a permanent marker. First we wrote a message in permanent marker on the paper. Then we dabbed a little bit of nail polish remover on a cotton ball and rubbed the cotton ball on the message. After a minute of consecutive rubbing the message slowly started to fade and finally disappeared all together.

RUN is Simon Christopher, Hana Noorali and Lynton Talbot.

Working mainly with young, recently graduated artists, RUN aim to represent these artists commercially whilst simultaneously striving to cultivate an environment that allows freedom, collaboration and project based activities.

The gallery began life as a ‘moving space’ with the first two exhibitions taking place in Berlin over the summer of 2006. Temporarily taking over disused residential and commercial spaces, Run continued to be parapatetic in London until it was agreed that, due to a growing program, a permanent location was necessary in order to support this consistently. Now delivering seven shows per year from two spaces on Tudor Grove, RUN continues to embrace an open approach to exhibition making.

Freddie Hoffman (Also known as "Million Mile Freddie"): The man who rode his bicycle to the moon and back

Freddie Hoffman a native of River Edge, New Jersey, is the man who has ridden his bicycle to the moon and back. More accurately, he has ridden the equivalent of more than two round-trips to the moon and hasn't stopped. He is known among bicyclists as "Million-Mile Freddie." To date (2007) he has bicycled more than 1.4 million miles. He has ridden his bicycle in the cause of the leukemia research and raised more than 1.1 million dollars.

Freddie's path to bicycle riding was his response to serious personal challenges. Oxygen deprivation at birth caused brain damage which left him with profound learning disabilities.

Because of those learning disabilities he was often considered ineducable and, as Freddie describes it, "Too stupid to learn". Through the efforts and determination of his mother, Ruth E. Hoffman, Freddie learned basic skills and received whatever public education she could get for him. His mother died of leukemia in 1986, and in addition to naming his bicycles "Ruth E." after her, he has focused on raising money in her memory to support leukemia research.

As a child he had few if any friends and was attracted to bicycle riding as his escape from loneliness. His heroes were the astronauts who had been to the moon and his goal was to pedal his bicycle the distance to the moon and back. He describes his childhood bicycle as being his "rocket ship".

Freddie keeps scrupulous logs of his mileage and has ridden across the United States many times while visiting every state in the contiguous 48. In his travels he has been honored by more than 30 state governors.

Freddie travels alone; No support team follows him. He carries all his gear, and enough parts to do most repairs, on a bicycle he built to his own specifications. A detailed understanding of bicycle geometry enables Freddie to design a frame and construct a bicycle that can support him and all his supplies and equipment, and still be able to ride in an upright posture and climb mountain roads while maintaining a steady 80 RPMs. He is now riding "Ruth E IV".

Every Spring Freddie calls on his friends and supporters, now numbering in the hundreds, to get pledges to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation for his upcoming ride that summer.

ABC News ran a story on Freddie Hoffman in September 2006 along with a 14 minute interview. [1]

South Concho River

The South Concho River is one of the few rivers in Texas to run South to North for its entire length. Rising from Anson Springs some four miles South of Christoval in Tom Green County, it flows North through the town of Christoval then then continues North for 13 miles before it joins the middle and north Concho at Knickerbocker Crossing in what is now South West San Angelo. The river is known for its cool clear deep water and its Pecan covered banks. Watercress grows in the shallows along the banks and because it is unique in the southwestern landscape it was a landmark favored by both Indians and early Anglo travelers. An important stopover on the Commanche War Trail, the South Concho was also a welcome resting place for early Anglos heading West across Texas. Susan Peak, a unique mesa on the Southern Edwards Plateau is located just SE of Anson Springs making the springs particularily easy for early travelers to locate.

David Lewis Stokes

The Man

A Professor of sorts this man is mainly known for his vast Beach Boy collection.

After a concert, that he describes as "Life changing, and mesmerizing", he dedicated his life to making sure that the band's name would always go on. "Their harmony and dance moves," he recalls, "are just timeless". It is estimated that he owns up to over two thousand pieces of paraphonia.

The Mission

Professor Stokes openly talks about putting his pieces

into a gallery called, "Beach, Summer, and Love." With tears in his eyes he says, "I just hope that history always remembers them."

The Deans' Men

The Deans' Men are the University of Chicago's Shakespeare performance troupe. So far they have performed some of the bard's more well known pieces, such as Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream, along with lesser known works (1 Henry IV and 2 Henry IV).
The group insists on relatively low budget and low tech performances. They feel that Shakespeare's language is too often lost in the glitter or lighting or drownd out by a soundtrack. By focusing on the text and its performance the group hopes to reaffirm the beauty of Shakespare's work. In putting the plays on stage naturally, simply and with an ear to its inate rhythm the group hopes to show that Shakespeare need not be confined to the classroom, nor performed in contexts that attempt to remold the plays to their own tastes and not the text's. The language is most wonderful when performed purely.
The group's advisor is David Bevington, Professor Emeritus of English Language and Literature at the University of Chicago. The group's name mimics Shakespeare's and his contemporaries' theatre troupes, e.g. The Lord Chamberlain Men, The King's Men and .
In Fall 2007 the group intends to produce The Merchant of Venice at the International House in Chicago.

Drummoyne Show

The 'Drummoyne Show' is a Rugby League contest taking place at Drummoyne Oval, fought out between the Sydney suburb of Drummoyne and a 'Rest of the World' side, in a fierce rivalry dated back to 2004.

History

Established by Concord High School students of graduating year 2005, the match took place every friday afternoon for much of the '04 and '05 seasons. Before the onset of the Higher School certificate (HSC) ruled the greater portion of regular young players out to a rigourous study regime, rendering the frequent and popular competition to an unfortunate close.

The Final

The Last Regular match took place in September of 2005 in a one sided match that saw the valiant Drummoyne team go down to the Rest of the World side that we're just to strong on the day. To this day Drummoyne seeks revenge.

The Name

The title of 'Drummoyne Show' was derived from a witty banner produced by a Mr. R Mottley of Russell Lea, reading Drew-Moyne Show (for an ING Cup match between NSW and South Australia in only the second ever interstate cricket fixture at the Pictureque Drummoyne Oval), as a reference to the then Channel 9 program, 'The Drew Carey Show'. Brilliant stuff.

The Teams

The Drummoyne team draws on representatives from the suburb of Drummoyne itself and her surrounding neighbours of Russell Lea, Chiswick, Five Dock, Wareemba and Abbotsford, while the Rest of the World comprises of players from much of Sydney's inner West and around the globe, notably imports from New Zealand and Great Britain. The generally accepted border which divides the teams is the canal which runs through Barnwell Park Golf Course between Concord and Five Dock. But exceptions have been made on account of origin and residency

The Future

The Drummoyne Show is set for a much anticipated reunion/rematch on Friday the 29th June 2007, in what is gearing up to be a heated confrontation between two proud footballing sides. An equally anticipated booze-up has also been scheduled for the players and fans up at PJ Gallaghers, Drummoyne.

An extremeley popular drink revolutionized in late 2006 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The drink calls for: four shots of malibu rum; four shots of pineapple juice

While popular mostly in Bay Area clubs and bars, the drink is spreading by word of mouth to other parts of California as well. The drink was created by two young women the frequent the Bay Area nightlife and was, reportedly, named in honor of a friends dog named "Bun Bun."

I hope u enjoy the music I have displayed here and I really hope if you are in Vegas you come to check out a show I have videos on here from different shows that I did feel free to check em out I also have some videos on here of some personal moments with my family and my new music video will be on here soon ( yay) My brief bio written by DB. Queen of Neo-Hood Music Contemplating where she would fit amidst all the pretty girls that can sing, Patrice Austin aka Ms. Magic, realized that it is the testimony gained through struggle and experience that gives her relevance. Experiencing the extreme luxuries of life from being the daughter of a professional basketball player, to feeling the lows and burdens of everyday trials of being a off again- on again single mother. Instilled early with Christian values, as daddy also moonlighted as a Pastor, that mixed with her love to entertain, inevitably led her to the choir. Refining and spiritualizing her talents in Raleigh, North Carolina for the first 17 years of her life, this angels destiny was to spread her wings out west to learn more through life in order to touch more lives than she could have ever imagined. Las Vegas, Nevada accepted Ms. Magic with open arms, and also opened her mind and horizons to further educate her pallet. Growing through the woes of life, as most people do, via heartbreaks, loss, disappointments, and having to find self, Ms. Magic truly believes that God was training her. Now, its time to practice what she's been preparing for her entire life. Featuring on various local projects and appearing here and there in major music videos, fans of Ms. Magic have only had a tease of what's to come. Here comes the bride! A marriage between real life and pure soul in the art form we call music. She writes with the spirit of Maya Angelou in her pen and sings with honor for greats such as Billie Holiday and Sara Vaughn. Having been compared to the like of Erykah Badu yet more contemporary resemblances have sited such as Kelis. However, the breath of fresh air is and will be welcomed by many…..so without further a due…..Patrice Austin aka Ms. Magic. But a little more about me ... I was born in Raleigh,NC..lived there for most of my life.. I attended Word of God Christian Academy and played basketball on the Varsity sqaud since 8th grade.. an accomplishment I was very proud of my father played for the world famous Harlem Globetrotters until I was about 12 years old, which meant alot of traveling for me at a very young age. Ive been to almost every state in the US and traveled to Europe twice, I love flying and getting to see different cultures. When I was about 11 my father and mother decided to put me into modeling school because they saw how tall I was getting (by 8th grade I was already 5 foot 9) I attended John Casablancas Modeling School and learned how to walk a runway and take fierce photos, I also developed a LOVE for acting as well while I was in this school I booked my 1st gig at age 11 for Limited Too doing mannequin modeling and a small print campaign. I have been singing since age 4.
