Talk:Centennial Hall (Wrocław)
On the title
How about moving the article to Hala Stulecia ? --Lysytalk 07:27, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- No, the current name is Hala Ludowa, but a redirect seems a good idea. Karol 18:29, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Shouldn't the title be Centennial Hall ? That's the name used in the UNESCO article, which refers to The Centennial Hall (Jahrhunderthalle in German and Hala Ludowa in Polish).
- Also Great Buildings Online uses "Centennial Hall".
- Amazon.com for Centennial Hall Max Berg: 4 books on architecture.
- Amazon.com for Hala Ludowa: 4 books (2 on architecture, a travel book with "Centenary Hall (Hala Ludowa)", and a memoir).
- Google Print for "Centennial Hall" "Max Berg": 5 books on architecture.
- Google Print for "Hala Ludowa": 2 books (a travel book and a memoir).
- Google Print for "Hala Stulecia": nothing.
- Google Print for "Peoples Hall" "Max Berg": nothing.
- Google Print for "People's Hall" "Max Berg": nothing.

Anglicize
Per above discussion. Please. Dr. Dan 06:00, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- I think a WP:RM request would be in place here. --Lysytalk 08:02, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed Lysy, can you implement it I'd like to see how it's done. Not sure on the procedure. Dr. Dan 02:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Just watch me :-) --Lysytalk 07:06, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Requested move

The result of the proposal was Move. Regarding the disambiguator, it seems that the Wrocław one is the most important object of this name, so (Wrocław) doesn't seem called for (ergo, the dab page will be moved first). Duja► 10:41, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Hala Ludowa → Centennial Hall — Anglicize. Also, the name used in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. —--Lysytalk 07:13, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Support It should be in English on the English wikipedia. If anything maybe it should be moved to just Centennial Hall rather than Centennial Hall in Wroclaw? Just like the Eiffel Tower and the Big Ben are simply called by their name in the articles I don't think the name of the city is neeeded. JRWalko 16:58, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Proposal changed per your concerns. Please vote again. --Lysytalk 04:58, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Support Ditto. Hala Ludowa is meaningless to an English speaker, nor is it, it's original name. Operative issue is UNESCO English name. Location of the hall is unecessary in name of article (the dissambiguation examples are very weak and not true names of the other halls). - Support in general, per my December 2006 comment above. However, since there're many other Centennial Halls, I would prefer to have this article under Centennial Hall, Wrocław or Centennial Hall (Wrocław). Then again, my standard for when a subject can be considered a primary topic appears to be higher than the one commonly applied in Wikipedia, so don't pay much attention to this opinion :-) Regards, Ev 12:53, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Discussion
- Any additional comments:
Unless one can demonstrate that there is another Centennial Hall on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, isn't adding it's location in the title a bit of overkill? The Eiffel Tower in Paris? Big Ben in London? The article itself explains its location. Dr. Dan 13:45, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I thought about Centennial Hall initially, but then I've noticed that the name is already taken, as there are several other, maybe less prominent, Centennial Halls in the US. I'm not sure if there are Eiffel Towers there, too ;-) --Lysytalk 19:33, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Are you trying to say you are not aware of the existence of the Eiffel Tower in Poland? I think the Gliwice Radio Tower is obviously prettier than its French counterpart. On a serious note though I wasn't aware of the other Centennial Halls. Maybe Centennial Hall (Wroclaw) or in fact the original proposal. Either is fine IMO.
Since nobody else voted yet and both Dr. Dan and JRWalko expressed their support for Centennial Hall, I'm going to cancel your votes, and rephrase the original move request. I hope none of you will mind that. --Lysytalk 04:56, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
