Manish is a common Indian name, derived from a Sanskrit word - "manishi" meaning "A scholar or an intellectual"

Contrary to the popular belief , the name "Manish" is not composed of two words "man"(mana) which means Mind and "ish" which means God. Probably this belief arises from the fact that many Indian names that end with "ish" actually refer to God[citation needed]. The popularly ascribed, but actually inaccurate meaning of the name Manish is "God of Mind".

Many Indian male children are given this name. It is a popular name in central and northern parts of India.
