Wikipedia:Requested moves
Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus to move the page is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will carry out the request. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved". When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion may be closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Uncontroversial proposals
Only list here proposals that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list and use {{subst:WP:RM2|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required.
If you object to a proposal listed here, please relist it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.
- Cathedral Parkway–110th Street (IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line) → Cathedral Parkway–110th Street (IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line) — This is merely an en-dash replacement, per the recently changed standard at WP:DASH, and gets the article back to the title given in the text, and which it had until April 11, when it was moved before the dash standard changed. —Marc Shepherd 21:44, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Interwikimedia links → Wikipedia:InterWikimedia links — Because "Wikipedia:InterWikimedia links" is so much easier to read than "Wikipedia:Interwikimedia links, and because nobody has ever objected to "Wikipedia:InterWikimedia link" until now, and because InterWiki, WikiWikiWeb, etc. are titled as "InterWiki", WikiWikiWeb", etc. —PTNFromm 06:24, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Incomplete and contested proposals
- Old City → Old City (Jerusalem) — Disambiguate, and move current disambiguation page (Old City (disambiguation)) to Old City. —TewfikTalk 09:20, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Buy (town) → Bouy (town) — The title has been misspelled. The name of the town shall be spelled as "Bouy" in English. —Mistreater 10:33, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Mario Strikers Charged → Mario Strikers Charged Football — Strikers Charged = NA name, Charged Football = PAL name. NA version is unreleased, while PAL version is released, has been high on the sales charts in most PAL countries, is receiving television advertisement, and it has superior news coverage (discovered by analyzing the Google news articles which discuss the NA version and which discuss the PAL version). - A Link to the Past (talk) 21:51, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- The Huntington Library → Huntington Library - usual convention of not having "The" in titles. Doesn't even seem to be a redirect, but won't let me move it. Johnbod 03:18, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Move The Huntington Library → The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens which appears to be the correct name as listed in the article and on the web site. Also the article is listed in categories to support this usage. Having only library in the tile is misleading at best. The rediect that is left will automatically route anyone expecting to find this at The Huntington Library or Huntington Library will get readers to the correct article. - Could an admin please do a history merge of William Arthur Bruce into William Arthur McCrae Bruce (the same person), and then decide if William Arthur McCrae Bruce ought to be moved to William Bruce (soldier)? --Eastmain 17:42, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Other proposals
Please use the correct template: see the instructions above. Do not attempt to copy and paste formatting from another listing. |
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Dictionary of the Catholic Resistance → Catholic Resistance —(Discuss)— cuz the page is not a project nor does it belong in Wikipedia space —Richard 08:27, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Evolution (philosophy) → Evolution (integral thought) or Evolution (religion) - It appears that that a group of people who are interested in Integral thought as propounded by various New Age thinkers are portraying their beliefs as "philosophy." See Involution (philosophy) below. Gregbard 21:15, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Through Silver In Blood → Through Silver in Blood —(Discuss)— Capitalization of the word "in". The target page currently redirects to Neurosis (band), which is confusing for users who don't know that there is already an article. It should be deleted and then replaced. —= ∫tc 5th Eye 16:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- World's largest airlines → World's largest airline — The naming conventions prefers singular terms. A clueless user recently moved this to The World's largest airlines, and while I was able to remove the "The", I could not remove the "s". —Huaiwei 12:22, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Taeguk → Taegeuk —(Discuss)— It is the official romanization, as defined in the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean) -- iGEL (talk) 05:45, 26 June 2007 (UTC) —iGEL (talk) 05:45, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Gary Jones (actor) → Gary Jones —(Discuss)— 37 out of the first 40 Special:Whatlinkshere/Gary Jones pages refer to the actor (primary meaning), 1 to a footballer, 2 to a costume designer who has no article and is not even listed on the disambiguation page. I already moved Gary Jones to Gary Jones (disambiguation) to make room but the rest requires an admin. Potentially controversial because Gary Jones was turned into a dab page two weeks ago without fixing the incoming links. If the actor got moved back to Gary Jones, a {{otherpeople}} would also do, and the incoming links wouldn't need to get fixed. —– sgeureka t•c 13:42, 24 June 2007 (UTC) Request formatting completed at 03:52, 26 June 2007 (UTC).
- St. Louis Blues (hockey) → St. Louis Blues —(Discuss)— From the links to St. Louis Blues, it is apparent that this is the primary topic for the title. Thus, I have moved the dab page to St. Louis Blues (disambiguation). This page can be moved to the plain title, since the parenthetical is not a part of the official name. The redirect tag at the top of this page can be replaced by an otheruses tag. Is there consensus for that setup? —Dekimasuよ! 02:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Involution (philosophy) → Involution (religion) —(Discuss)-- the concept described is an entirely religious subject. perhaps 'philosophy of religion,' but not 'philosophy'. Gregbard 02:17, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Medical intern → Internship (medicine) —(Discuss)— Move to parallel the titles of other levels of medical education: Residency (medicine) and Fellowship (medicine). Internship (medicine) already exists with an edit history, so page could not be moved. —Scott Alter 00:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- The Stars and Stripes Forever (march) → Stars and Stripes Forever (march) —(Discuss)— Official title as penned by Sousa does not contain the word 'the'. —Upholder 23:04, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Jesse West/3rd Eye → Jesse West —(Discuss)— Move requested to standardize the article title. —Dismas|(talk) 17:28, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

- Command & Conquer → Command & Conquer (video game) —(Discuss)— There are several uses for "Command & Conquer" – disambiguation needed. —MrStalker talk 15:36, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Command & Conquer series → Command & Conquer (series) —(Discuss)— Using "()" around the "series" is the standard title formatting used in most video game related articles —MrStalker talk 15:15, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Red Orchestra (game mod) → Red Orchestra: Combined Arms — Red Orchestra: Combined Arms is the full official title for the game, as Red Orchestra (game mod) is vague and does little to distinguish the other game in the series, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 —PCPP 06:50, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Athens, Georgia → Athens-Clarke County, Georgia —(Discuss)— As of 1991 Athens, GA does not exist officially, but it became a unified government called the Athens-Clarke County government. To the U.S. Census Bureau and the state of Georgia Clarke County and Athens-Clarke County exist, but not just Athens. Georgia has small counties in land area size and Clarke county is one of the smallest in Georgia, so rather than the previous city annexing most of the county there was a unique situation where the city and county government merged and became one. The page for Athens-Clarke County, Georgia has been created before, but it currently just a redirect page. —Cwkimbro 18:02, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Iwo Jima → Iōtō —(Discuss)— The official name of the island has been changed. A previous request to move to "Iwo To" was unsuccessful, and spawned this request, started on the 24th. Dekimasuよ! 00:09, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Forward reference → Forward declaration —(Discuss)— "Forward declaration" is the first term covered in the article, and the one with an unambiguous meaning. "Forward reference" (as explained later in the article) may be a synonym of "forward declaration", or it may refer to something else. —Quuxplusone 22:05, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- 1960 UEFA European Football Championship → 1960 European Nations' Cup —(Discuss)— It was the official name of the tournament during this edition, as per UEFA. The current name or even "UEFA Euro 1960" or "Euro 1960" could be used as redirects. —Parutakupiu talk || contribs 18:27, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Colin Kâzım-Richards → Colin Kazim-Richards —(Discuss)— While the Turkish origins of part of this footballer's name are acknowledged, and rightfully a source of pride, the man in question was born, and that birth registered, in the UK, and therefore the legal registration of his name is without diacritics, as is the expectation of Wiki convention. The name is usually rendered in the standard letters of the English alphabet in UK sources, thus addressing the most general rule overall. This request is effectively the reversion of a move made on 2007-03-17 without prior discussion. —Kevin McE 18:08, 24 June 2007 (UTC) Kevin McE 18:08, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Angels (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) → Angels —(Discuss)— In its current state, Angels is merely a redirect to Angel, but in my case, Angels is an encyclopedic, valid article about a television episode. I would also use the {{twootheruses}} template to redirect people to Angel from the new article. —Anthony Rupert 13:26, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Sega Super GT → Scud Race —(Discuss)— Scud Race was the original intended name for this game, and it is so titled in every territory aside from North America. Only North America knows this game as Sega Super GT. Even though the majority of the gaming press is American (Gamespot, IGN et al.), Google still shows that Scud Race is more popular than Sega Super GT. —hahnchen 12:15, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Railway line template → tbd —(Discuss)— Multiple uses and usages of this, beyond original concept. Name to be decided —Simply south 12:00, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- 2004 UEFA European Football Championship → UEFA Euro 2004 —(Discuss)— Part of a multi-move for more consistency, not sure how to request a multi move here (all articles since Euro 96 + Qualifyning 96 in the move) (when it took on the Euro name) — ¢нαzα93 08:09, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Click'N'Run → To be determined by consensus —(Discuss)— User:Tcrow777 thinks this should be moved, but not sure where. –Pomte 06:04, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Boston (disambiguation) → Boston —(Discuss)— Just because something gets more hits on Google, doesn't mean it is more popular. "Nirvana" gets more hits for the band but it doesn't redirect to the band. Same case with iron maiden vs. the band and Franz Ferdinand vs. the band. Plus, most people in the U.K. are better aware of Boston, Lincolnshire than Boston, Massachusetts. "Boston" should at least be disambiguated. —Reginmund 00:46, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- 2012 UEFA European Football Championship → UEFA Euro 2012 —(Discuss)— 2008 competiton was moved so this should be too (logical) — ¢нαzα93 17:01, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Heaven's Gate (cult) → Heaven's Gate (NRM) —(Discuss)— Title has negative connotations and is POV-pushing. —Sfacets 00:26, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Riksdag → Parliament of Sweden —(Discuss)— The name riksdag is not exclusive to the Swedish parliament. The page should therefor be moved, and the article riksdag should be made into a disambiguation page, with links to both the parliament of Sweden and the parliament of Finland as well as other uses of the word. —E.G. 16:40, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Six Feet under Episodes Timing and Space → Timing and Space —(Discuss)— Apparently, Timing and Space is an episode for a television series, Six Feet Under. I checked other television series' episode articles, and they appear only to be named after the edisode, with no reference to the series in the title. This is just a minor issue of consistency. Thanks a lot, Curran (talk | contibs | random) 15:50, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Peta (prefix) → peta- —(Discuss)—All prefixes should be moved to prefix- titles, as this is the standard way prefixes themselves are talked about and listed in dictionaries, and so that the (prefix) disambig isn't needed. Also see Category:Prefixes for similar article titles. — Omegatron 23:11, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

- Goguryeo-China wars → Military history of Goguryeo or War history of Goguryeo —(Discuss)— The current name "Goguryeo-China wars" does not accurately describe the participants of the war who were neither Chinese nor Goguryeo. —Endroit 23:49
- Relisted. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 23:22, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Groove Adventure Rave: Fighting Live → Rave Master —(Discuss)— Rave Master is the English name for this game. On English Wikipedia we should always favor English titles. —JohnnyMrNinja 19:46, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Osteopathic medicine → Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine —(Discuss)— To try and make the medical education articles parallel each other, I believe that this article should be renamed to Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (to match Doctor of Medicine). This article already mostly describes the DO degree, so the title would be appropriate. Criticisms that the article is US focused would be moot, as the DO degree is only offered in the US (as far as I know). Discussion of the differences between the education of MDs and DOs should be addressed mostly in Medical education in the United States. Information pertaining to the word osteopathy would be in the osteopathy article, which would link to the DO article. —Scott Alter 23:03, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Allopathic medicine → Allopathy —(Discuss)— This article mostly pertains to the term allopathy. By changing the name of the article, the focus will shift from defining conventional medicine as allopathic to what allopathy means. This should alleviate some of the controversy and arguments indicated in the discussion at Talk:Allopathic medicine. Conventional medicine can be discussed in another article (maybe Medical education), and differences between MD and DO can be discussed in Medical education in the United States, Doctor of Medicine, and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. —Scott Alter 22:51, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
