The word stop has several possible meanings in the English language, but most commonly means to cease moving.

Additionally, stop can refer to:

  • Stops (Dynamic Range), the amount of contrast between black and white in video, film, and still photography
  • Stop consonant in linguistics
  • Aperture, a structure that limits the diameter of a light path in an optical system
  • Stop squark, the supersymmetric partner of the top quark, in particle physics
  • Stop codon in genetic code.
  • Full stop, a punctuation mark known in the U.S. as a "period" and shortened to stop in telegraph messages
  • The point on an animal's head at which the muzzle meets the forehead
  • Blue Screen of Death, an error in Microsoft Windows or Windows-based operating systems
  • Stop, a brand name climbing device made by Petzl
