Template:MMAstatsbox Kimbo Slice real name Kevin Ferguson (born c. 1976) is a Miami, Florida-based underground street fighter turned mixed martial arts fighter. He has appeared in several bare-knuckle fights which have spread primarily on the Internet. It is a career Kimbo has since given up and is now putting his efforts towards being a professional mixed martial arts fighter.

Biography

Slice has worked as a bodyguard for RK Netmedia, a Miami pornography production/promotion company responsible for number of popular adult subscription websites, such as MILF Hunter and In The VIP. [1] Rolling Stone has stated his age at 31 (in 2007) and called Slice "The King of the Web Brawlers".[1] His current bare-knuckle fighting record is 7-1. Ferguson was a star defensive player for Miami Palmetto High School in the Pinecrest area of Miami, Florida. Although he was recruited to play football in college, he went on to the University of Miami on academic scholarship and he did not play football for them. He was only there for a year and a half.[2] Kimbo was born in April.

Career

One of Slice's most notable fights was a September 2003 encounter with Sean Gannon, a Boston police officer who trains in mixed martial arts (MMA).[3] Slice was defeated by Gannon, but Slice's team argued during filming that Gannon cheated by using a guillotine choke as well as at least 2 knee strikes, GMMA moves they considered outside of the rules of a typical bareknuckle stand-up fight. However after Gannon's illegal moves, Kimbo is seen striking Gannon several times while he was on the ground and attempting single-leg take downs. Due to the popularity of the video, the Ultimate Fighting Championship signed Gannon, who lost in his debut at UFC 55 on October 7, 2005 to Branden Lee Hinkle by a technical knockout due to strikes. Gannon is currently 1-1 in MMA fights.

Slice made his sanctioned MMA debut against former world champion boxer Ray Mercer (6'1, 241.9 lb) at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 5, in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 23, 2007. A video of Slice signing for the fight can be seen on the Cage Fury Fighting Championships official website. Kimbo is currently training with MMA legend Bas Rutten. Slice talked about his debut in an interview with [1] touchgloves.com. The match was a three-round exhibition utilizing all professional rules of mixed martial arts combat. In this fight he beat Mercer using a guillotine choke.[4] After the win, Kimbo was interviewed and stated that he would like to fight Tank Abbott. Abbott, who was a spectator, stood up from his seat and accepted the call out. One of the matchmakers for CFFC asked Kimbo for his assurance so that a September 14th bout between Kimbo and Tank Abbott can be organized. [5] Kimbo stated in his pre-fight interview with CFFC that he is done with backyard bare-knuckle boxing.

Slice will be featured on The Iron Ring, a new television series airing on BET which features mixed martial arts prospects. Slice will be a part of the selection process for the participants.[6]

Personal Life

In his June 23 pre-fight interview, available for download at the Cage Fury Fighting Championships website, Slice revealed that he currently lives with his family in Miami, and is the father of 6 children, 3 girls and 3 boys. During the interview, he also dismissed Internet rumors that he served prison time in Florida, that he is bi-sexual, and that his younger brother is disabled as 'complete nonsense'. [7]
