Linda Chung

Linda Chung Ka Yan (Traditional Chinese: 鍾嘉欣, Simplified Chinese: 钟嘉欣, Pinyin: Zhong Jia Xin) (born April 9, 1984) is one of TVB's most popular and favorable actresses. She has gained remarkable success in recent years noticeably the role of "Seung Joi Sum" (常在心) in the 2007 TVB drama Heart of Greed. She was signed to TVB after winning the title of Miss Chinese International in 2004. She was the youngest actress (at the age of 22) to take home the Most Improved Female Actress Award at the annual TVB Anniversary Awards in year 2006.


Biography

Linda was born in Vancouver, Canada and is the youngest in the family and has one elder brother and one elder sister. She graduated from Templeton Secondary School in 2002 in Vancouver. After, she then studied one year at the University of British Columbia, Canada. In 2004, she joined Miss Chinese International, a beauty contest organized by TVB, and she became the third Vancouverite in 4 years to win Miss Chinese International after Bernice Liu in 2001 and Shirley Zhou in 2002. The 1st and 2nd runner-up in the same year was Mandy Cho (Hong Kong) and Carlene Aguilar (Manila). She was also the winner of Miss Chinese Vancouver 2003, along with Dorothy Chan and Queenie Chung. However, according to her in an interview, she was not attractive and considered pretty at all during her high school days. She has had no admirers since she was wearing spectacles and was very quiet and introvert all the time.

Career

Linda's first debut in Virtues of Harmony II as "Hung Bak Lam" (Michelle) started to draw attention from the audience. At first, she has been facing the same critism as another TVB fadan Charmaine Sheh about her squeaky voice and lousy acting skills. Later, it slowly faded as her acting has gradually improved.

Linda is known as "Advertisement Queen" in Hong Kong because she has a lot of sponsors and advertisement deals. In her short year in Hong Kong thus far, the success and popularity that she has achieved is phenomenal. Now, she is even a singer in TVB's new album "金牌女兒紅" (All About Women) with her first song "發誓" (Swear).

Linda made her debut performing Sandy Lam's "Honesty" at TVB Extravaganza a few months ago. Her song for this CD is supposedly the theme song to her new series, 搜神傳 (an ancient mythical series about Gods).


Rise to fame

After the airing of the critically acclaimed TVB 40 episode drama series Heart of Greed, Linda's acting skills have been improved dramatically. She has been receiving positive reviews for her acting as the first leading actress "Seung Joi Sum" (常在心） in the drama and the number of her fans have been increasing since the airing of the drama.

Linda is now being known as one of the prominent actresses, on a par with TVB A-list actresses Charmaine Sheh, Myolie Wu and Ada Choi that are at least 5 years older than her. However, it is to be said that she is given a myriads of opportunities in such a young age is because she always has less rumors and has a very good attitude in TVB.

Her performance is said to probably surpass Jessica Hsuan, Kenix Kwok, Flora Chan and any of the TVB actressess in the coming years.
