Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Burgundavia (talk | contribs) at 04:58, 24 May 2005 (Phase I - May 23). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is intended for listing and discussing images that are used under a non-free license or are missing important copyright or licensing information.

How to list

  • 1 - see if the image can be listed at Wikipedia:Images for deletion (if it's unneeded) or at Wikipedia:Copyright problems (if its source is known and it cannot be used by Wikipedia under any license or under the fair use doctrine).
  • 2 - place one of the tags listed below on the image page
  • 3 -contact the user who uploaded the image on their talk page with {{subst:idw-pui|IMAGENAME}}. For large numbers of images, merely copy a list of images on to their talk page.
  • 4 - place the image under today's section in Phase I.
  • 5 - after 15 days of Phase I, if the issues has not been cleared up, move to Phase II and add {{unverifiedimage}} to the image description on articles the image is on.
  • 6 - after 15 days on Phase II, if the issues have not been cleared up, the image is deleted, and removed from all articles.

General notes

  1. Images are listed here for a total of at least 30 days before they are deleted.
  2. Images can be removed immediately if they are public domain or licensed under an indisputably free license (GFDL, CC-BY-SA, etc.—see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for more on these).
  3. Images which are claimed fair use must have two people agree to this.
  4. If you see in the contribution history that the editor hasn't visited in a while, it might help to also use the "E-mail this user" link rather than relying only on the talk page. There may also be contact information on the editor's user page.
  5. As always, assume good faith when making contact.

Image tags

Add one of these templates:

  • {{PUI}} (if information on the image's copyright status is missing)

This template should only be used on file pages.

  • {{PUIdisputed}} (if the copyright information is disputed)

This template should only be used on file pages.

  • {{nonfreedelete}} (if the image is only available under a non-free license) to the description page

Template:Nonfreedelete

Once the image is tagged, create a new listing in today's section in Phase I.

Listings

Phase II

These images have been listed in the #Phase I section for at least 15 days, and have been replaced in any articles that contain them with boilerplate text. Remember to use today's date when moving images into Phase II, not the previous date used in Phase I.

That may be so. However since he has not made any contributions since September 2004, I think it unlikely that you will get a reply in the next 30 days. I would note that this picture is one of a series which he appears to have taken himself while visiting the Scottish Highlands. There seems to be little doubt that the copyright owner is Warbeck himself, so I don't believe that deletion is necessary in this case. -- Derek Ross | Talk 19:10, May 12, 2005 (UTC)

I thought I found this on a website that said the picture was public domain, but unfortunately I can't remember where. CDThieme
How can this be a copyright violation if you are unable to find a source to which the image violates copyright? -Husnock 16:01, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Very simple. If we can't find a source that releases it under a free licence, it is non-free and thus a copyvio. Burgundavia 16:32, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)
I understand. Was curious if the source had to be on the internet or if verbal/written sources were good as well. This applies to the Pope image mentioned above. Kind of new at this, trying to learn. -Husnock 16:54, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Phase II - May 18th

All Uploaded by User:Dbraz45. He has uploaded other images that were discovered to be copyvios, namely Image:Akili Smith and Image:082599smithpc 1024x766.jpg, so I highly suspect that these other sporting images are also copyvios. Has been contacted. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 18:40, May 2, 2005 (UTC)

All uploaded by User:Demonhunter. He uploaded pictures of the band members to the Demon Hunter article, overwriting a user's image of himself (see Image:Ryan.jpg history; I restored that one) and two others (which I also reverted). These images here do not have a history. He has been contacted. (Sorry if I put this listing on the wrong page. This is my first time doing this; post to my talk page if I put this on the wrong page.) --Idont Havaname 00:44, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Image:Kris.jpg looks like it may have been cropped from [6] - there wasn't any licensing on it
  • Image:Jesse.jpg looks cropped and enlarged from [7]. Again I'm not sure if it's a copyvio, but even if it's not it should still be deleted because we don't need pictures of individual members in a band article barely bigger than a stub.

Also look at histories of Image:Jon.jpg, and ]. There are previous versions with similar situations.

Some stuff is fairly old and debatable, but no sources/tags in almost all cases User:Mulad (talk) 04:37, May 6, 2005 (UTC)

This image was manipulated from a copyright source and the copyright holder Sesame Workshop might not be happy with the image's content. --Chill Pill Bill 15:29, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just add a Copyright tag, the I affirm that the copyright holder of this file agrees to license it under the terms of the Wikipedia copyright is not rlieable because its always ignored. -guety is talking english bad 20:05, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
