The electoral ward consists of some or all of the following areas: Bonymaen, Crymlyn Bog, Pentrechwyth, Pentre Dwr, Winch Wen, in the parliamentary constituency of Swansea East. The ward is bounded by Neath Port Talbot to the west; Llansamlet and Morriston to the north; St. Thomas to the south; and Landore to the west. This area is home to the Swansea Vale Railway.

The village of Bon-y-maen is located about 1.5 miles north east of Swansea city centre. Immediately above Bon-y-maen on the top of Kilvey Hill is the main TV transmitter for Central Swansea. The local rugby team is Bonymaen RFC.

The district of Cefn Hengoed lies at the heart of the ward. Cefn Hengoed Comprehensive School is located here. Also located here is Cefn Hengoed Leisure Centre, which offers the only full-size indoor football pitch in Swansea.
