Waterloo Hydrogeologic, Inc. (WHI) is a company that specializes with groundwater modelling software, training, and consulting services. The company was founded in 1989 by Nilson Guiguer (Ph.D.) and Thomas Franz (M.Sc.) as Waterloo Hydrogeologic Software. The name is both a reflection of the location in Waterloo, Ontario, and from the University of Waterloo, where Nilson and Thomas had graduated. The company at the early stages focused on software, and first released FLOWPATH, which—at the time—was the first fully-integrated graphical groundwater modelling software. In the fall of 1993, Waterloo Hydrogeologic became incorporated and started with the development of Visual MODFLOW.

The company was purchased by Schlumberger on January 10, 2005,[1] and continues to operate from Waterloo, Ontario.
