Annie Ross (born Annabelle Short on July 25 1930 in Surrey, England) is a jazz singer, best known as a member of the trio Lambert, Hendricks & Ross.

Perhaps her most famous song is Twisted which was recorded by Joni Mitchell, Bette Midler and many others.

She has also had an extensive solo career, both singing and appearing in a number of movies. Notably, she appeared as Judy Garland's sister in Presenting Lily Mars (1943), and other roles in Superman III (1983), Pump Up the Volume (1990), and Robert Altman's Short Cuts (1993). Ms. Ross also provided the singing voice for Britt Ekland's part in the cult classic (original) movie, The Wicker Man.

Although Ross was born in England (of Scottish parents), she was raised in the United States — living in California with her aunt, Ella Logan. Her brother was the entertainer Jimmy Logan.

She is one of the early practitioners of a singing style known as vocalese, which involves the setting of original lyrics to an instrumental jazz solo. Her 1952 treatment of saxophonist Wardell Gray's "Twisted" is the classic example of vocalese.

With an active professional career spanning more than 64 years, Annie Ross is currently performing every Tuesday evening at The Metropolitan Room at Gotham (34 W. 22nd St.) in New York City.
