Robert Altman (February 20, 1925 - ) is an American film director known for his naturalist films, usually with a somewhat skewed perspective.

As a director, he favors stories showing the interrelationships between several characters, and frequently allows characters to talk over each other in such a way that it's impossible to make out what each of them are saying. Altman was born in Kansas City, Missouri, USA.

His films MASH and Nashville have been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
